Acting like that was some huge failure and she might have otherwise won is silly. There's hardly a -chance- for it to have succeeded where she did not deliver it...and it's not as if the places she did deliver weren't close.
Quote:But we NEED to end the coal industry, we need to regulate emissions.
We -need- to do that but we can't because our credible alternatives are blocked "for environmental reasons" and the other alternatives aren't as green as people imagine them to be. Solar, for example..is as dirty as it gets (which is a shame because it doesn't -have- to be). Hillary's energy policies, frankly, were political opportunism and fence sitting that contradicted themselves and each other at nearly every point...and they've been so for her entire career.
Quote:Her tax policies would still have helped them more than Trumps,
Objectively and demonstrably ture, they simply didn;t believe her...why do you think that might be?
Quote:but I guess their livelyhoods are threatened under greener policies,
Um, no....so very few people work in coal...even here, in coal country, a coal job is not the norm- it's the holy grail. We work for automotive manufacturers round here...when we can get "good" jobs (read 9 an hour is a luxury, toyota subsidiaries can and do pay minimum wage - see...we stole those from the rust belt on the premise that they could pay us less and we'd be thankful for it)...fast food when we can get -any- job. Lot;s of us work more than one job, plus w have sideline "enterprise" that we do all of our own accord. You know who loves nature, wildlife, workable green policies (and who hatyes being painted as the bad guy every damned time...)? People who actually live in and, to some extent, off the land...rather than visit them on occasion.
Quote:so I'm not sure what message she could have sent to appeal to both the social liberals in the cities that want these changes to be made, and the rural folks, who have good (if very short sighted) reasons not to.
The reasons you have imagined for them are probably not a 1 for 1 mirror of the reasons they have, you;re also imagining that there isn't a significant current of social liberalism in rural areas (another criticism we've been made to endure since...forever)
Aroura. I'm not an aberration, lol. I know more rednecks like me, than unlike me. Ilm ot gonna bullshit you, all of our fathers are exactly like the people you imagine us to be...and they vote like you wouldn't believe, there's nothing left for them in life -but- to vote...lol. If it;s any consolation, out here in the country, people don;t live quite as long, due to the shitty ass state of healthcare...out in the country. Your city bound bigots are going to be around for alot longer than their country cousins. You saw that play itself out in florida. Where the college vote went to Trump..because the college vote is fucking 80 years old. They remember when they could get their sandwich quicker at the lunch counter.......

What movie was that from? If I'm not mistaken, that's the actor Jeff Daniels (the one giving that speech).
Edit: I found it... it wasn't a movie. It was a tv series called The Newsroom and he played Will McAvoy.

The LA times can call the economy whatever it likes but if they pretend that Obama didn;t exceed the campaign promises of his rivals they;d just be lying. So, wtf are you babbling about, now?
Quote:All that matters is whether voters want a change or not. And that depends on how well the economy has been performing under the outgoing administration; in this case, the Obama administration.
Well, I doubt that;s al that matters...but if what voters wanted was a change they;re going to be disappointed. Wealth will now transfer more quickly and expeditiously from the poor to the rich. That was, after all, a campaign promise Trump made...and unless you think he;s a lying peice of shit that -din;t- plan to tax the poor to enrich the rich, as he said he did.....then...wtf...are you babbling about....now?
Quote:For the last, agonizing six months, the airwaves and newspapers have been filled with political prognoses. Every commentator claimed special insight into how voters would cast their ballots and why. Most of them were wrong, of course. And according to economic theory, completely irrelevant. None of the political factors the pundits cited ad nauseum even enter the best economic models.
I'd disagree. I'd say that they were right. Hillary just blew an easy victory
Quote:Simply put, Clinton lost because the economy under President Obama did not perform well enough to meet Fair’s thresholds of happiness. Economic growth was anemic for nearly all of the last eight years. As a result, job creation lagged far behind the records set during other post-recession recoveries.
Still beat his political opponents promises.....and, of, he'll -have- done a better job than trump on that count..what with trumps plans being to, apparently bring back jobs from a place they aren't even -at- anymore. / shrugs
I know, I know, all this talk about economics you don;t understand..to avoid what you'd already acknowledged earlier...that you had "other" problems with obama. You're so eager to imagine that you're arguing with you political opposition it never occurs to you that I don't think that Obama did anything of note for the working class as regards the economy...I know he didn't...and Trump will do even less than that, just as he said he would, lol. You;re just a fucking moron who didn;t know the numbers in the first place, and has incorrectly interpreted trumps economic plan as beneficial to you....like so many others, lol. We are going to lose money, and the tax burden will fall increasingly on the poor...who have no money to begin with. How trump plans to pay for walls and bridges and all of that other shit...by squeezing the rock of your wallet and head..is a mystery...but you think he;s gonna do it...because, I guess, you've conflated him with some other guy, who could turn water into wine.

And now that the right-wing has their savior, I think anyone that ever made a comment about Obama being the anti-Christ dictator that was going to declare himself president for life and usher in the end times has to stand up and publicly declare, "I'm sorry for being such a stupid dickhead."

You say that like we have a choice.
Pence was a brilliant choice. Insurance against assassination, he's actually MORE of a cretin than Trump.

Sure, Trump has very fascist tendencies, but I don't think we have to worry that the guy that quoted "Two Corinthians" is actually carrying a cross.

Maybe that was McCain's plan as well?
