Whose fault is it when another country doesn't provide its own citizens with decent social services and economic opportunities? Of course all third-world nationals would rather live in prosperous countries with generous social services! But resources are not unlimited, even in first world countries. Every nation must take care of its own vulnerable and unfortunate citizens first. Low-skill impoverished foreign nations divert those resources away from the schools, community organizations and social services that should be attending to the needs of its most vulnerable citizens. You put the oxygen mask on yourself first before you assist others. That's basic common sense.

Sure we could increase the social safety net to include non-citizens but that also comes at the expense of other things - like foreign aid, scientific research, policing, workplace safety inspection, sanitation, national parks, space program, pensions, medical research, infrastructure, etc. Needs are unlimited.

Can you point to me where Jesus said that we should only help the poor if it doesn't inconvenience us first?

The thing is though, we can/should help the poor by our personal services... giving to charity, volunteering, etc. Not necessarily by counting on the government to do it in a way that the person may believe is probably not very effective and may end up doing more harm than good. 

Personally I think there should be a good balance, but I understand the perspective of others and it doesn't necessarily mean they're being anti Christian.

Maybe it's just the fact that I'm a documented immigrant, so I fully understand the costs of coming to America legally, but can someone explain why deporting people who are here illegally is a bad thing?

It took a lot of time and money for me to finally get to live with my American wife. If people are skirting around those requirements, I don't really have much sympathy for them.

Large, important parts of the US economy is dependent on undocumented and seasonal immigrants. For example the agricultural industry as a whole would be screwed without their cheap labour.

OK it's not a nice situation to have, but with capitalism it's a case of "make the worst goods possible, at the lowest wages possible, selling for the highest price possible" and the primary producers get royally screwed.

There's gotta be a line drawn somewhere though. Every country has borders and every country protects its borders. We can't let everyone just walk right in here willy nilly. If over population is a thing world wide, I don't see why it isn't a thing for countries individually.

Guess we should tear this fucking thing down, huh?

That's the thing.  We do let people walk right in.  Half of all illegal immigrants are people who came here legally on visas and overstayed.  Why is it that people supposedly trying to stop illegal immigration only seem to be concerned about the 50% coming through the southern border?  The answer to that should be obvious.

White Irish men and women aren't going to be deported by Trump, because they are the right colour, speak the right language (a bit funny granted, but we loves them anyways), and are 90% to being the right religion. As I keep saying to people I know here thinking a load of Irish people will be flowing back, they're not the people Trump's targetting.

Seriously, what's your point? That all nations with some Christians in them should be expected to take unlimited immigrants from poorer nations?
