I guess, which as I said doesn't make it any better, it's not so much the racism but the frightening apathy making it possible for something like that to happen. Otherwise good people hearing the message and still voting for that creature. I tend to believe them when they say they aren't racists themselves, but they were aiding and abetting.

Because it doesn't increase the odds that they will vote for your candidate next time, I'd imagine. No one is talking about the people who would never vote for a Democrat. We're talking about the ones who didn't vote for the Democrat this time.

Yeah, I'm speaking in the context of this discussion, not from the perspective of the candidate who'll be running. That's exactly why I wrote that Hillary using the term "basket of deplorables" was a big blunder.

I think it's important to make those Trump voters understand that we don't think all of them are irredeemable bigots. But it is equally important to get them to understand that a vote cannot be spent a la carte, and you select from a menu of your candidate's positions. Like it or not, when you vote (for whatever reason) for a bigot, his bigotry has gotten your support. When you buy the boat, you have to take the leaks, too.

But if you say this, you have to say it about Hillary''s voters too: 

"Like it or not, when you vote (for whatever reason) for a liar/criminal/corrupt politician, those traits have your support."  

I think it honestly doesn't do any good to sit here and chastise people for voting for who they did. The 2 "real" candidates for president both sucked. Many people simply voted for who they thought was less awful. But it's over now. Whatever side wants to win next time, has to play their cards right.

One shouldn't judge them by their worst 12 years. Partly shared by us being brothers in crime, for that matter. But there's a very long history to go with. A history where this was the one out.

Actually, no. Unless you can point me to Hillary accusing entire demographics of being inferior or endangering the American people. Unless you can point me to the KKK endorsment for Hillary because they finally felt represented.

There's a difference between voting for an undesirable candidate and a candidate mainly and openly running on the bigot's ticket.

I don't think that's what she meant.  More along the lines of having to accept the things in -her- platform and candidacy that are shitty.  Which, ofc, is true.  The people who voted hillary have to own hillary just as surely as the people who voted trump have to own trump. Warts and all, in all cases.

The lesser of two evils...and I'm not making any judgement here as to which was which is, ofc, -still- evil.

If you look at the Trump supporters here, you'll see it wasn't apathy towards his racist ideals. It was do anything to justify that this isn't racism, so they can convince themselves that they aren't aiding and abetting.

That's why it's so much fun to point out all the racist things about the Trump campaign.
