It takes no faith not to believe in God. I was born that way.

Why don't I believe in god. To be honest, there are two answers. One, there is no 'proof' of god that I find believable. Two, religious people freak me out, more often than not. I couldn't spend enough time with them to be a good believer.

This isn't much of an introduction, ibelieve. It's more like a question. Wink Therefore, I am going to ask you two questions and squeeze an intro out of you. What exactly do you believe? Why do you believe in god?

If you bothered to check the meaning of the word 'atheist' you may have refrained from making your ignorant, patronising and fatuous post.

An atheist is simply a person who disbelieves in god(s). Nothing else is implied or may be inferred. Atheism is not a religion,a belief system,a philosophy, a set of principles, an ideology,a secret society, nor even a social club where we have monthly barbecues and roast babies.

My atheism is not a choice, but an inescapable conclusion it took me over 20 years to reach, from age 20 to my early 40's. I'm 63 next month.

Oh, which God? Do you perhaps mean YHWH/Allah? He's the petty, vindictive, petulant, cruel, capricious, and vicious god of a small bronze age tribe of goat herders. He began as "el' (he), a minor Sumerian desert god, hence the nasty personal qualities.

We could start one! But I guess with people being scattered all over the planet it might be hard to pick a centralized location for meetings.
The one thing everybody needs to remember is that I never claimed to be sane!

You all are serious and funny! I don't have this account to bash anyone a lot of my good friends are atheist. I can't answer all of the charges and comments but I would like to say something. Everyone is a "believer" of some sort. You have "faith" in what you believe. If you believe there is no "God" that is called a belief system. You don't have a monthly social event, but this forum in itself is a social place where you discuss what you feel.
I am sorry if some of you got burnt in church and the situation turned u against God and disbelieving his existence but God is real and He loves you, died on the cross to forgive you of your sins. Turn to him and trust him and he will even save an atheist lol. God bless you all and keep the encouraging comments coming I respect each and everyone

umm your mixxing up your meanings of FAITH ... there are different definitions of "faith" ..from Dictionary.com
faith
–noun
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in god or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4. belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5. a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.
6. the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc.: Failure to appear would be breaking faith.
7. the observance of this obligation; fidelity to one's promise, oath, allegiance, etc.: He was the only one who proved his faith during our recent troubles.
8. Christian Theology . the trust in God and in His promises as made through Christ and the Scriptures by which humans are justified or saved.

So everyeonmay have some kind of faith but it is not of the religious sort as in 2,3,5 or 8.. The use of the word "faith" is an attempt to mislead based on the equivocation fallacy. So as an ATHEIST you may have "faith" but it has nothing to do with religion.......

Words have meaning and sometimes multiple meanings... THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE... FOR EXAMPLE you can date a girl named Faith but you canot date "faith as outlined in def 2"

The same goes for Believe.....

CAN I GET AN AMEN... errr I mean thumbs up Smile

"What is your favorite television show?"

"I don't watch television at all."

"Well, then OFF must be your favorite television show."

Makes about as much sense.

Welcome to the boards ibelieve! Unfortunately, i think you'll find that youre arguments will hardly hold up here, as the members of this forum are very scrutinous of suchs things. Other than that, have a good time, and learn a little somethin!

How can we argue with you guys think if you think you know everything? The way the world works is not written in a book. We must continue to learn how it works using evidence we find. This is why you have no luck here...atheist think this way. Unfortunately you don't. You think in terms that Agnostics/Atheists have gotten past. I'm sorry, I mean no disrespect, but it's true. You simply refuse our evidence and then ask more questions. I've noticed theists rarely back up their refusal of evidence...probably because you can't.

You know...if history will repeat itself our modern religions will be replaced in the future and will be regarded only as myths without being commonly respected. You are lucky we entertain you for the time being. Have a nice day.

The absence of belief in gods is in itself not a system. Because of atheism, different kinds of systems may arise out of that lack of belief however: secular humanism, nihilism, existentialism, objectivism, materialism, anarchism, communism, transhumanism, naturalism, postmodernism, etc etc etc (this is why even atheists here on this board have divergent ideas here after all)

THOSE are "belief systems" all of which may (or perhaps may not) include the absence of belief in gods. And they are all very different belief systems. Atheism, taken by itself, is quite boring and bland.
