You must have all knowlege of everything in the universe to make a statement like that.

I am not absolutely certain the sun will rise tomorrow, however I can be reasonably certain, that is all. There is no such thing as "absolute certainty." If humans had to base their daily lives on knowing things with absolute certainty, we wouldn't be able to take one step out of bed, paralyzed by doubts every minute of the day. Human beings can and do manage without such metaphysical obsessions.

All that is needed is reasonable certainty, not absolute certainty, in order to reach the conclusion that there are no gods. That is sufficient.

Did you even read what people are saying here? The vast majority of atheists do not emphatically state that there is no god. All we say is that there is no evidence for the existence of a god.

Quote:You must have all knowlege of everything in the universe to make a statement like that.

Which is at least partially why we don't make a statement like that.

Quote:You all pretend like your the "there is no God" expert.

Wrong.

Quote:You say prove there is a God
Yes, the burden of proof is on YOU. YOU are the one claiming that some deity actually exists. It is then YOUR responsibility to support this claim with actual evidence. It is not our responsibility to DISPROVE your claim. If you don't understand this I highly recommend taking a college level course in Logic.

Quote:and I say prove that there isn't a God!

And here's creationist fallacy #3: "Prove that "God" DOESN'T exist!"

Sigh...

Okay, smart guy, prove that leprechauns don't exist.

It's nearly impossible to prove a negative. Which is why the vast majority of atheists DON'T say that "God" doesn't exist! Also, us being unable to falsify the existence of a supernatural being does nothing to strengthen your claim that the supernatural being is real.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

A question for a question why waste your time believing in silly superstitions that inhibit your lifestyle and force themselves upon you through the use of manipulation and fear tactics?
There is nothing people will not maintain when they are slaves to superstition

So why don't you pray to Vishnu ibelieve04142000? It takes more faith not to believe in Vishnu than it does to believe in Vishnu.

I can't answer all of the charges and comments but I would like to say something. Everyone is a "believer" of some sort. You have "faith" in what you believe. If you believe there is no "God" that is called a belief system. You don't have a monthly social event, but this forum in itself is a social place where you discuss what you feel.
I am sorry if some of you got burnt in church and the situation turned u against God and disbelieving his existence but God is real and He loves you, died on the cross to forgive you of your sins. Turn to him and trust him and he will even save an atheist lol. God bless you all and keep the encouraging comments coming I respect each and everyone

Saying there is no god and saying there is no gold in china is most certainly not the same thing.
Gold is actually something that I can hold in my hand. I have held it in my hand and I can find more gold both raw and worked to see it personally. I can even see mines were gold is dug up and I can even become a miner of gold, so even if I've never been to china and I don't know if there is a market of chinese gold, I can extrapolate that it wouldn't be too inconcievable that there are gold mines in china.

God has nothing. He cannot be met personally. He can not be talked to directly. More than half the planet doesn't believe that he exists and virtually every individual person has a different account for how god works.
Every book on china and/or chinese mining operations is consistent worldwide.

See the difference? I can say 'there is no god' with far more certainty than 'there is no gold in china'.

There are no absolute certainties in anything. I don't need to know everything about the universe to know there is no god because no being of such 'magnitude' has ever made any kind of thumbprint anywhere. I have nothing other the imaginings of a few primitive men of the bronze age.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

That's the thing God never forced me and no one ever tried to scare me in to believing in God. So I don't know what God your talking about.

It's called 'life long indoctrination'. Allow yourself to break free from superstition and free your mind. Why hold on to childish delusions when freedom of thought is right there for the taking? Come on... you know you doubt those silly stories you've been told. Don't be blinded by the light. Turn away and see the truth revealed.

Good try man but I didn't trust in God until I was 15. Thanks though. When I look at the Bible I see logic. I had one of you atheist say there is no absolutes. Well the means you must take things for granted or use that ugly word "trust" or "believe" in the unexplainible things of nature or the unexplained things of the universe. I just simply choose to believe instead of not believe. I have no hard evidence or pictures of God in the family album but don't feel sorry for me I am a normal person with anormal job who loves the Lord and I serve Him out of love not duty or fear. Thanks for ur thoughts though.

Exactly. Whereas I look at the claim of a god's existence critically and find no compelling reasons to believe they are true. Critical thinking: what a concept.
