In that story the people were choosing to live apart from God and were suffering the consequences. I guess we all expect to get burnt if we put our hands in the fire. I guess you could blame God but that would be misguided as you're blaming him for what are the consequence of his goodness... the bad stuff that happens when you act contrary to that. If you want to pick one and research it you'll see that you are mistaken. If, having researched it you find a genuine statement on the evil nature of God then please present it. I've yet to find one.

fr0d0 what you are doing is called minimizing, and in this case it has to do with your gods responsibility for his actions. If my daughters misbehave I can ground them or take away something that they love temporarily, but I would never consider killing them. God could have handled this differently, and no matter how you spin it the end result is his decision and he holds full responsibility for it.

It's like a wife beater who tries to justify his beating his wife down to a bloody pulp by making such stupid statements like "if she would not have pushed me I would not have punched her in her face. He is shifting the blame for his actions on the victim as you are doing with your defense of God and his evil and immoral actions.
