I was 6 weeks pregnant, which is 4 weeks after conception. It's weird, but for some reason they start counting the pregnancy on the day of your last period, even though conception doesn't happen until about 2 weeks after that if your cycle is regular.

Right. So 4 weeks pregnant is really only 2 weeks post conception. I'm just saying, it doesn't give a woman much time to make a decision. My OB won't even have a woman into the office to verify a pregnancy on ultrasound until 8 weeks pregnant (which is pretty standard these days) so, according to this law, by the time a woman can have a potentially viable pregnancy verified via imaging, it's already too late for her to decide to terminate. Talk about a road block. I'm surprised your doc saw you so early, CL. Is that standard for your OB or did you request to come in sooner than 8 weeks? If you don't mind me asking, Ofc. [emoji170]

What I was saying is that the article said the heart beat can be heard at 6 weeks after conception (8 weeks pregnant). I was saying that this is not the case because I heard my son's at 4 weeks after conception (6 weeks pregnant).

I requested it early because I was having very early symptoms (2 weeks after conception) and wanted to know if I had twins. Having twins tends to cause early symptoms.

From a legal perspective, there is absolutely no way this (currently) passes constitutional muster. Essentially, Ohio GOP is banking that Roe v. Wade will be overturned under a Trump presidency, and sooner rather than later. However, I believe that 5 of the current 8 justices are either pro-Roe v. Wade or, at very least, pro-some semblance of constitutional protection.

Essentially, the process that would need to happen for this to become a law is this:

1. Ohio legislature enacts it, governor signs it, it ostensibly goes into effect.
2. It's appealed the moment it's enacted.
3. Federal District Court says "This is unconstitutional under Roe v. Wade."
4. Federal Appeals Court says "This is unconstitutional under Roe v. Wade."
(4.5 At least 1 current pro-choice SC Justice dies or retires, and Trump appoints two staunchly anti-Roe v. Wade SC Justices to the two vacant spots)
5. Supreme Court certifies the case (agrees to take it up)
6. Supreme Court explicitly overrules Roe v. Wade, states that either a) there is no constitutional right to privacy at all (Thomas will probably write a concurring opinion espousing this wacky viewpoint), b) there is a constitutional right to privacy but it doesn't apply to abortions, or c) there is a constitutional right to privacy but it's overruled in the case of abortions by the constitutional rights of the fetus.

They'd have to write some rights into the constitution, to refer to the constitutional rights of the fetus......

While placing all sorts of waiting periods and forcing them to get transvaginal ultrasounds which will take even more time to set up appointments for, etc.

Yeah, it's definitely an end-run around the Constitution.

Well, what do you expect from a bunch of old men? [emoji39]

I had early symptoms both times as well. It always blows my mind when I hear stories of women who didn't know they were pregnant until they were popping a baby out on the toilet in a Walmart somewhere, lol. Like...how?! [emoji848]

I feel the exact same way. Truthfully, I'm pretty sure my symptoms started a mere week after conception. I didn't know I was pregnant and was wondering why I felt so "off". I found out I was pregnant a week after that because I was supposed to have surgery so I had to do a routine pregnancy test before going into the operating room. Total surprise that it came back positive. It was so early, I hadn't even missed a period yet. After that, my symptoms just got worse and worse.

As you know, I was very very sick the whole time and now my specialist suspects that the problems with the baby were the reason why I felt so sick. It was also the reason why I developed preeclampsia and gained a whole ton of weight while pregnant (heaven knows I was too sick to eat much). Crazy to think they were all connected like that... like our bodies can detect problems with our babies from so early on.

If you can't make it illegal, make it impossible.
