Trump and Conservatism As A Threat: What Should Be Done?

I've always found that to be such shitty thinking. You can apply it to any disagreement: 'If you don't like something, don't complain about it or try to solve it, just go away so I don't have to have my bubble burst by hearing from the likes of you' is what it amounts to. When I hear that sort of statement, my respect for the source drops about 10 points. It's hypocrisy, too, not a one of them would leave if the situation (whatever it is) were reversed.

Liberals. Don't. Vote.

The DNC hasn't really given us candidates worth voting for. Bernie got people voting, but the DNC actually fought against him. The republican party is really bad, but the democratic party isn't much better. They're obviously not interested in winning, and pulling the spectrum back.

Right, grow up. Because nothing bad happened the last time conservatives had control of the presidency, the Senate and the House. It's not like they unbalanced the budget, started two un-winnable wars that cost trillions and led to the death of thousands upon thousands of people, rolled back civil rights with the Patriot Act, deregulated Wall St. to the point that it sent the entire world into a crippling recession and sat on their thumbs while New Orleans devolved into a chaotic nightmare in the aftermath of Katrina.

But hey, at least they weren't like that tyrant Obama that made you recognize gay marriage, the monster!

Into what? A corporate bootlicking pile of shit? Because that's the smiling face conservatism presents these days. There's nothing remotely catering to the working population. It's all make believe and the fairy tale of trickle down economics, which has had more than three decades to be utterly debunked.

And yes, I'm old enough to remember conservative movements before this became the mantra. Back when they still had small shop owners and craftsmen in mind and not only the next bribe coming from the multinationals and the super rich.

This is such crap. They didn't give you an exciting presidential candidate. They pushed a centrist policy wonk with ties to Wall St. but who by every measure is leagues better than the dumpster fire we have now.

People need to be inspired by their candidate to stop an international train wreck? To show up and vote for Democratic down ballot candidates to shore up liberal policies in their state/national governments?

No. Most liberals are straight, educated white people who are supporters of a lot of liberal issues, but will have no real change in their life if things go bad for minorities and LGBT people. It's not that they don't care, it's that it really won't affect them, and there's not a lot of urgency. Which is why they have the luxury of waxing poetic about Hillary's flaws and the DNC while Donald Trump is appointing Steve Bannon.

Demographic-wise, the only group that needed Hillary to "excite" and "tittilate" them was middle class white voters.

Nearly every other racial/income combined group voted disproportionately for Hillary.

This is why I refuse to read the NYTimes - they were "Hillary's going to win, let's keep talking about how awful she is because Trump's a clown" central.

Well, the clown won. Ain't no stopping this train wreck. I just hope he angers China more - the first victims of a trade war will be the Walmart clientele (which are overwhelmingly Trump supporters). I can live with that.

I get the impression that Trump will back down on China, as he will on a lot of things once he's sitting in the hot seat. He strikes me as the classic bully-- brash and obnoxious until someone gets in his face, then he suddenly wants to be friends. Or at least that's what I hope happens because there are a few hills that he can choose to die on that would fuck us over big time.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Lately I have heard commented on C-SPAN and The View that part of the problem of the DNC is that it does not really spend time on courting rural voters. The observation is that the key to winning the hearts and minds of people is actually going to meet them where they are at and listening to their concerns and problems. Having thought about that it actually makes good sense. I think the Clinton campaign made the mistake of not doing enough of that in the heartland of America. It was interesting how it all broke down with the Electoral College map: East and West coasts were blue, most every state in the middle red. I do think the Democratic Party has veered away from courting the middle and lower classes, who they have traditionally helped and gave voice too. In addition to that, I think low voter turnout is a problem that goes hand in hand with that observation.

As for Trump, I wouldn't really worry about the dominionists or any sort religious issue.  I'm more worried about him strengthening the oligarchy and eroding the middle class.

I wouldn't underestimate the Dominionists. They are very serious about establishing Biblical Law as THE law. No matter how small a group the Dominionist/Christian Reconstructionists are they still pose a serious threat if they manage to gain political and governmental power. And they are serious about killing people that they hold as undesirables:

"Why stoning? There are many reasons. First, the implements of execution are available to everyone at virtually no cost.” Thrift and ubiquity aside, “executions are community projects–not with spectators who watch a professional executioner do `his’ duty, but rather with actual participants. That modern Christians never consider the possibility of the reintroduction of stoning for capital crimes, indicates how thoroughly humanistic concepts of punishment have influenced the thinking of Christians.” -- Gary North, Reconstruction leader

Also there is the 7 Mountains Mandate: https://www.generals.org/rpn/the-seven-mountains/

They are serious about this stuff, and we had all better take them seriously as a serious threat.

No I wouldn't moan and cry, I'd accept that Hilary won, and just vote in 4 years to get rid of her and move on with my life!

I'm giving my opinion that if you hate the way this country has turned out, or hate who is in charge, then leave! No point in wasting American resources on these pricks. Of course This is America we're taking about, so you have every right to be a little bitch. Just be expected to be treated like one.
