New Year's resolutions
#11
RE: New Year's resolutions
Lose more weight.  I'd like to get to 170 but will make 175 my goal.  Haven't been on a scale in a while but with all the chocolate in the offing that probably means I'll have to lose 30 pounds (just 25 if I'm lucky).

Another goal is to put my garden in tip top shape for the garden conservancy tour I agreed to put it on this coming April.  I've been cutting so much old, out of bounds growth in an attempt to rejuvenate a garden that's been made to make do with just a little off the top for years.  I'm already enjoying the added elbow room on the pathways.

Finally, in the game of mafia, I'd like to go on drawing scum roles and to triumph over town as much as possible.  But no more games for me until I judge the garden to be ready.

If you are white and male, the college kids of MTV already made your resilolutions for you lol.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

RE: New Year's resolutions
Maybe try and do the opposite of the 7 deadly sins

7 Deadly Sins List:
Envy = the desire to have an item or experience that someone else possesses
Gluttony = excessive ongoing consumption of food or drink
Greed or Avarice = an excessive pursuit of material possessions
Lust = an uncontrollable passion or longing, especially for sexual desires
Pride = excessive view of one's self without regard to others.
Sloth = excessive laziness or the failure to act and utilize one’s talents
Wrath = uncontrollable feelings of anger and hate towards another person

Replace them with:

Kindness = cures envy by placing the desire to help others above the need to supersede them
Temperance = cures gluttony by implanting the desire to be healthy, therefore making one fit to serve others
Charity or love = cures greed by putting the desire to help others above storing up treasure for one’s self
Chastity or Self-control = cures lust by controlling passion and leveraging that energy for the good of others
Humility = cures pride by removing one's ego and boastfulness, therefore allowing the attitude of service
Diligence or Zeal = cures slothfulness by placing the best interest of others above the life of ease and relaxation.
Patience = cures wrath by taking time to understand the needs and desires of others before acting or speaking.

Mine are mostly financial.

Pay off the car, start putting money into a 401k and IRA. Save for a house.

RE: New Year's resolutions
Stop drinking pop

I usually like to keep it simple and somewhat lighthearted... I've found in the past that if I make some huge, heavy promise to myself for the new year I don't end up following through with it Tongue
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

RE: New Year's resolutions
1. Crush my enemies.
2. See them driven before me.
3. Hear the lamentations of the women.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
