Is al mahdi like your pope?
Well I'm not sure about, Paul sometimes people say everything he says is from God. But when he is quoted on things like hair of women and it's better to shave it all than to show it or what not, they say that is his opinion and is not from God.
Also, Paul was one time "bad", then became a Saint.
But Ali was always upon the straight path.
Pope is chosen by people, Imam Mahdi is chosen by God and is the one humanity will be lead by to establish justice and restore balance in the world.
I don't know how to accurately explain this except in a long way so bear with me.
1. Before creation of physical world, God test all spirits.
2. The ones who responded to him with utmost possible way of love, resolve, and praise, and submission, became the exalted ones, the most praised ones to the extent they are only praised.
3. The ones who responded in exalted manner but lacked some of that utmost perfect resolve to God and submission to him, they were also exalted and chosen.
4. Mohammad, Ali, Fatima, and their exalted family were of the people of 2. I believe in every universe, there exists such creation.
5. Prophets were eventually guided to the path of utmost resolve, praise, and submission, but did swerve somewhat from that, but they never did evil, but did "sin" in the sense of missing the mark of God's Perfect Name. Mohammad and his family were always that perfect path and never swerved nor ever will.
6. When God created physical worlds, in every universe, he creates with the best of those who raced ahead to God...and they teach the Angels/Spirits to glorify God, etc....
7. Eventually he seals the physical earthly beings with their leadership and guidance, and seals the revelations and books through them.
8. Up to that point, he also due to his love of exalted ones that fell short of perfection, uses them as Prophets and leaders, and when he guides them to utmost submission (the highest possible will to have), they become the worthy of being the "Guide or Master trainer of souls" of age.
The Mahdi is final of all chosen ones and the remaining one from the family of Yaseen/Taha/Mohammad.
I hope that explains my stance on who Ali is.
With peace and blessings and Merry Christmas!
