Dear Theists....Why?
September 9, 2010 at 6:44 pm
I genuinely want to understand why you ignore evidence that others have found. What is your reasoning? I only want to understand you better. Non-Theists can step in and give their opinions too, but be nice!
I assume it's because you have faith. No?

What evidence exactly are you refering to, and on what subject? Evolution? The existance/non-existance of God? Religion? You must make clear what you are refering to, and point in the direction of said evidence afterward. I have never ignored evidence of something when presented with it.

what type of evidence subjective, objective or absolute?
Its ok to have doubt, just dont let that doubt become the answers.

I'm not aware of a requirement for theists to ignore any evidence, none of the facts if reality are a problem for a theist who is willing to impose his own standards upon his so called 'holy book'.
the problem lies not with their acceptance of evidence, but their completely disregarding any form of rational methodology when approaching their own beliefs.
It seems their epistemology is two-faced, standards of evidence that alone would never allow them to conclude on any other issue are more than sufficient in enforcing their belief in the friendly wizard.

I'm with Zeus. Use any and all areas of study to provide objective (there is no such thing as subjective evidence, just subjective conclusions), factual, testable, and corroborated evidence (FACTS) that support your position. No "I think" statements.
My religion is the understanding of my world. My god is the energy that underlies it all. My worship is my constant endeavor to unravel the mysteries of my religion.

ABierman - they may not have any facts supporting their position, but that does not necessarily mean that they have ignored evidence to the contrary, which is what Zeus stated.

No worries Void, I didn't mean to imply they do, I was referring to Solja's position on subjective, absolute, or objective evidence. If it is evidence, for it to be useful it has to be something we would recognize as such and work with, ie the reasoning behind it being presented as evidence must be sound.

Case: Moses did not do what he supposedly did but Christians continue to believe so.
My Evidence: It is physically impossible
If you are a Christian you MUST believe this is fact, although it is impossible. This is the kind of evidence I am talking about. Absolute truths that you go against.

If you are part of a religion.......you have to have ignored some kind of fact.

Erm, why exactly must I believe that that is a fact? What authority, exactly, do you have to say something like that? And how is that evidence so much as logical argument against?

I thought we would all just assume that I was talking about the usual things.
