I think Freud gets some slack for being a pioneer in the field. Even though he got a lot wrong, he at least blazed the trail for those who would follow.

Void, It was not meant to be unfair. You either can accept the assumption that it might exist and (since it is by definition intangible and unprovale materialistically) share your opinion on whether it's eternal or not or you can withold assuming anything. If you're unwilling to assume anything then the third option is for you. This poll is fairly simply a poll for people who feel there is a soul, or can temporarily accept that mental construct for the purposes of qualifying an abstraction.
@ Everyone else - It's (to use Adrian example) like asking you whether an escargo, peanutbutter and sourkraut ice cream existed do you think it would taste good. Obviously I'm not assuming sucha flavor exists or that you must taste it before forming any opinions on it. The definition were straight out of the dictionary except for 4, but it's not really important.
I really don't see why such a simple question always ends up so difficult. If you believed you had a soul and defined that as whatever definition you define as a soul (that's seperate from mind and brain) would one of it's aspects be eternal existence?

As I said, I have no way of knowing based on those definitions. It wouldn't be subject to the laws of physics, so not to entropy, but it might have laws of its own, which would preclude eternal existence.
It's just fanciful guesswork anyway.

The obvious difference being that one could, if one so desired, make sauerkraut ice cream. Alas, this is not true of "souls."
And, for the record:

Instructions:

Step 2: Add the milk and blend on low speed for about 2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has been dissolved.
Step 3: Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla with a mixing spoon or a whisk.
Step 4: Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
Step 5: When ready, pour the ice cream base into your frozen ice cream maker bowl.
Step 6: Let mix until thickened, about 15-20 minutes. If you are adding in candies or peanuts, add them in the last 5 minutes of mixing.
Step 7: Pour into a freezer safe container and freeze for at least 2 hours.
Step 8: Enjoy your ice cream topped with dark chocolate or milk chocolate ice cream toppings.
Sounds utterly dreadful, btw.

I like peanut butter,but only use it for 30 second sate sauce. (far too much fat for every day use)
Take  ne medium to large jar of peanut paste. One small jar of Green Thai curry paste OR a small can of Malay curry paste.Mix thoroughly but gently in a bowl using a wooded spoon.

ty for the recipe min but I don't think I'll be trying it.. I'm a french or vanilla bean guy (cake batter on special occasions). However back to the point.. I was hoping to get more than a nibble on the poll. Are the imaginations around here that dull  j/k

YW on the recipe. I agree that it sounds pretty friggin' awful. Vanilla Bean, however, might well be the high point of civilization.

Why should i accept the assumption? What arguments do you have in favor of substance dualism?
If the soul exists and is non-physical then it should be immune to physical death no? Then it would be "eternal" or at least immortal, since my soul wasn't existent prior to my birth was it?
The third option is not representative of my beliefs as it is phrased to suggest that i am denying something that actually exists...
