Well if I'm allowed to create my own definition, then the answer could either be yes or no, depending on if I decide if a soul is eternal or not.

I think the main flaw in this is that the definition of "soul" is key to properly give a response to this. If a religion defines in it's view that a soul is a eternal... and if souls existed.... Then, yes, they would be eternal. If you just go on a whimsical assumption of what a soul is, without any other knowledge to go by, then.. Nobody knows, because there's not enough information.

What exactly is a soul? Is it energy? Is "soul" a transcended material, made up of everlasting matter? Is the energy of a soul self-replenishing? Does it not need replenishing? If the soul dissipates, where would it go? Where would the matter or material that makes up a soul even go?

If it stops, is there a soul beyond a soul?

This poll is a very difficult one to answer and could go either way. I believe more options are in order.

Unless you intended a discussion of the thought of eternity... and if eternity is literally eternal... Which is a mind boggling concept. The phrase "Eternity's End" comes to mind, sort of like "Cold Fire," somewhat of an oxymoron, and rather poetically conceit.
I like the way you think!
...But please stop thinking, it's not you.

The mind is abstract and intangible like in substance dualism, but ust a function off of the material physical prain and it's firing neurons. The soul (seperate thing from mind and brain) would be an intangible input to the mind that anchors the identity of self and could possibly survive death.

@krazedkat, I know what I think, a poll is finding out what others think Big Grin
I'm speaking of DEFINITION, not whether or not it is eternal. My answer is that I refuse Tongue

RE: Is the soul eternal
4. the emotional part of human nature; the seat of the feelings or sentiments.

12. deeply felt emotion, as conveyed or expressed by a performer or artist.

Taken from a larger definition. I cannot accept most of the other definitions.

Given the above defintions. Emotions, fellings, & sentiments are created & interpretated by the brain. Therefore, from my accepted difinitions, without a brain, there can be no soul.

So, when the brain dies the soul does too!

The soul is the inverse of eternal.
