I was going to post something anti trump on my facebook. But as I turn on the TV and see all those protesters throwing rocks/bricks at people, destroying property, and blocking streets, I decided I don't want to be associated with them either.

So a few people are doing bad things... and it speaks badly of the group? And you don't want to be associated with them?

Of course the news shows the handful of people being asshats, because they want more views.

They aren't showing the literal 10's of thousands of people across the country protesting peacefully, because it won't garner as many clicks or viewers.  There were peaceful protests ALL NIGHT outside of Trump Tower last night, and exactly 0 big news orgs reported on it.  Nothing, nada. It may as well not even be happening, as far as the big news is concerned.

Also, you think posting something anti-Trump would associate you with the negative protesters?  Why?  Do you think posting something Pro-Trump associates people with the racists?  I thought you really disagreed with that kind of broad brush painting.

To be fair though CBC covered the protests last night but that just shows why Canadian and American news differ

If there was a particular day where pro lifers ran to the streets to throw bricks at people and destroy property, I probably wouldn't find that a good day to say something pro life on my facebook feed. And I don't think anyone here would argue with that.

I personally disagree. But others don't, and they will associate decent people with the worst of their groups. A day where people on "my side" of any issue are acting like violent idiots is probably not a good day to promote that particular issue. Regardless of what the issue may be.

Aren't there people acting like violent idiots every day?  But yes, I see your point. Today it makes the news, an you don't want your image tarnished.

I rarely post on FB because I think most people overshare and I am not one to share my privale life that way.  I just post occasional pics of projects I do with my kid, the snowfall we got, etc.  But not today.  Today I protest also, even if my voice is small.  Because today it matters.  Have courage.  Don't let the anarchists that use every opportunity to throw a monkey wrench into machine make you think that we should not raise our voices if we disagree.  Don't let the news silence be your silence.

Hmmmm....

I took journalism in college, and anyone who works at a TV, newspaper, radio station knows the old phrase "If it bleeds, it leads". It is a dick move far too much by what should be called "corporate media" which is not really left wing ownership, I only wish those employees from the top to the mom and pop shops would stop allowing the CEOs focus on the few and focus on the vast majority. But "If it bleeds it leads" applies to anything, local crime, car accident, natural disaster. 

This is the same bullshit they pull when a black man or cop dies, pit society against each other, great for ratings.
