Is there a logical, rational reason why hate is bad?

Is there a logical, rational reason why hate is bad?
I often hear people saying 'oh hate is bad' in one way or another. But is there a real, rational reason why hate is bad? This ties into another concept that I find interesting, which is; rational, scientific morality. As in, morality you can prove exists.

I think that you wouldn't want to live in a world where people hate you, so you wouldn't hate other people is one way to look at it. The whole do onto others as you would have done onto yourself, that actually makes logical sense and isn't a religious rule (it's just a universal rational one, there's no such thing as rational religious rules. A rational idea is just rational, any rule is just a dogma, there's no rules exclusive to religious people that make them better people).

But beyond that, I'm sure hate isn't very healthy. I often hear about how stress causes health problems or whatever. That's ironic considering the age we live in, where stress just comes with the territory.

In our evolved state, we have substituted hate for simply not caring.

Can you define hate or put it into a context? What you and I consider hate might be different.

It's as subjectively bad and good as morality is. It always depends on which end of the hate you are on. This can definitely come back on you as well, though. The more hate you direct outwards, the more hate accumulates in society. It also becomes easier for others to hate you specifically if you are hateful. Do you want to live in a world where hate is abundant? Think about how you are contributing to that.

Hate is bad when it increases the suffering for oneself and/or others AND the option to experience less hate is somehow available and when that option of experiencing less hate is selected oneself experiences less suffering for oneself and/or others than one otherwise would if one didn't take the option of being less hateful.

Hate is me expending my energy in a cause which ultimately makes me unhappy anyway.

That's bad, in my book. I much prefer expending energy working towards happiness.

Yes, it is clear to me as well that it makes you happy to counter others.

Like the saying goes, hatred is like a burning coal you hold in your hands, looking for someone to throw it at. The coal burns you, and twists your thoughts. It eats at your psyche. You can oppose evil in the world, but if you just sit there hating all the time, it's bad. I've felt it towards people who have wronged me, and I wish I could just let it go, but it doesn't leave easily.

Sometimes, hate is a tool that leads to positive change.

What does that have to do with hate?
