*Sigh* This is becoming the new normal. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Lies are truth.
I'm so glad that 1984 has become a new best seller in the wake of the presidency of Carrotface McGrabbinpuss. I just get the bad feeling that the people who need to read it, aren't.
I was just telling my hubby that about the similarities to Brave New World! Agreed. Though some stuff is leaning 1984, all the same.

Pedantic..but, orwell probably wasn't worried that any of that might happen, he thought it already had. 1984 was a criticism of wartime (and early postwar) britain.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Our existing society already reflected A Brave New World (all hail Ford). That was well underway before Trump was elected.
People want new things, all the time, and lots of them. I've always said, I'd rather have one well made $50 sweater once a year, than 5, crappy $10 ones, but most people seem to disagree (in practice). Over consumption of pretty much all things decadent, from junky TV to junky food, is the norm. I will say that I think this LED to Trump, though, and the possibility that things will become more Orwellian. Enouhg people loved him on his TV show, and admire the gluttonous, irreverantly decadent lifestyle he lives to think he's be a great leader because of those exact traits. It depends on how people treat the real, free press, and how well the gov't checks and balances hold up. It's possible he'll TRY and screw both, but the majority of folks won't let him. It's also possible they will sit watching Survivor, eating Cheetos and drinking Coors, cheering at his distracting twitter feed while he destroys it all.
