I was just telling my hubby that about the similarities to Brave New World! Agreed. Though some stuff is leaning 1984, all the same.

The crazy thing is, Trump is doing both within his own administration.
I mean, he's using strong arm tactics against media that dares to report anything he doesn't like, but he's also distracting the media by acting like a complete loon. We aren't paying attention to the tax bills he's passing or what he's doing with our health care system and nobody notices how much the rest of the world hates us even more with Trump in office. What are they paying attention to? Pee pee tapes, his Twitter feed after a new episode of Saturday Night Live and Ivanka's clothing line.
Huxley and Orwell were both right. Unfortunately.

Pedantic..but, orwell probably wasn't worried that any of that might happen, he thought it already had. 1984 was a criticism of wartime (and early postwar) britain.

Our existing society already reflected A Brave New World (all hail Ford). That was well underway before Trump was elected.
People want new things, all the time, and lots of them. I've always said, I'd rather have one well made $50 sweater once a year, than 5, crappy $10 ones, but most people seem to disagree (in practice). Over consumption of pretty much all things decadent, from junky TV to junky food, is the norm.
I will say that I think this LED to Trump, though, and the possibility that things will become more Orwellian. Enouhg people loved him on his TV show, and admire the gluttonous, irreverantly decadent lifestyle he lives to think he's be a great leader because of those exact traits.
It depends on how people treat the real, free press, and how well the gov't checks and balances hold up. It's possible he'll TRY and screw both, but the majority of folks won't let him. It's also possible they will sit watching Survivor, eating Cheetos and drinking Coors, cheering at his distracting twitter feed while he destroys it all.
