Additionally, make sure that mental healthcare is easier to gain access to and make sure it has equal funding. The last time I stayed in a behavioral ward it was plain to me that it was grossly underfunded. In fact they didn't even have individual therapy. In this vein, I would like it if people were more accepting of the mentally ill here, to the point that I wouldn't have to be embarrassed to say "I don't work or have a wife and kids because I have schizophrenia." Some might think I'm lazy or something but it's safer for them to think that right now, I think.
I'd rather not test how accepting people are.

There is no shame in that. I interact with both treated and untreated schiz individuals on a weekly basis.

Thanks. The thing is I live in a rural area. Its kind of like the rednecks of the north but not quite as bad. So IRL I have to be prudent who I reveal that stuff to.

That's a tough one.

Drug laws: by completely legalising cannabis, although I do have a personal bias against the harder drugs as I have known addicts and seen how it destroys lives with my own eyes. It's not nice.

Political system: I haven't thought it through entirely but we're stuck in the past. We still have a royal family and the House of Lords and we need to make the transition to another system, as it is bound to eventually happen sooner or later.

Immigration: Definitely an important issue and it does have to be controlled, however sometimes the current system can make it difficult for skilled workers to come over. That needs to be looked at, no idea why they would want to come to this shithole though.

Tax avoidance: We need to clamp down on big companies using sneaky and unfortunately legal methods of not paying what they owe. I would be open to the idea of giving small, independent businesses a tax break as well.

Public transport: Nationalise it all.

NHS: Reverse the creeping privatisation by Labour and the Tories. Nationalise it.

Talking about nationalising - I don't understand why anyone ever thought it was a good idea that nuclear powerplants should be run by for-profit corporations rather than the dept of energy

Nuclear power plants have been a bad idea in any case. As shown by Free mile Island. Tschernobil and Fukushima. They have the ability to depopulate large areas for thousands of years if something goes belly up.

Australia needs a better education system. We're falling behind the rest of the world.
We also need to start saving some of the money from our mining boom.
It's not going to last forever.
The government needs to create more incentives for renewable energy.
We could use the money from the carbon tax which does nothing to help the environment.
We could increase immigration with an understanding that the immigrants be settled in the places that need labour most and work at a reduced rate for a certain amount of time.
We need to invest money into research on agriculture and farming, and how to keep it all running when global warming sets in for good.
We need to build more cities on the western side of Australia.
There's plenty of good land over there and the other cities are becoming sardine cans.

TEN THINGS THAT WOULD IMPROVE NEW ZEALAND

1.  Fewer Australians coming here.

2.  A lower number of Australians.

3.  Some way to reduce the frequency of Australians visiting NZ.

4.  We have way too many Australians here.  Something should be done about that.

5.  If the number of Australians in NZ was smaller than it is now, that would be a help.

6. I have plotted the raw number of Australians here as a function of available space.  It seems high.

7.  If more Australian residents of NZ could somehow be repatriated to Australia, I think that would be a net positive.

8.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I wish to have more fondness for Australians.

9.  I hear that most of Australia is pretty sparsely populated.  Just saying.

10.  Didgereedon't, please.

Boru

notice for the humour impaired:  the above is intended as good-natured joking.  Australians are warm, sweet, wonderful people and the world - including NZ - could do with more of them
