In addition to the Good Muslims thread, here's one dedicated to the good Christians out there. I encourage everyone to contribute to both.

Quote:It’s an interfaith effort: a Christian charity funded by private donors is bringing Syrian refugee children into Israel for heart surgery.
Shevet Achim, whose name means “brothers dwelling together,” has been quietly arrange transport for Syrian youngsters from their countries of refuge into Israeli hospitals. So far, at least six children have made the trip.
Jonathan Miles, the group’s founder, has been helping to facilitate Israeli medical treatment for Arab children born with heart defects for the last 23 years. Between 10 and 20 children come to Israel each month, typically from the Gaza Strip or Iraq, and now Syria.
Israel’s public health insurance program, coupled with the generosity of doctors, makes Israeli treatment an inexpensive option compared to treatment at other Western hospitals. Surgeries cost around $8,000 including the cost of temporary stay in Israel.
The group’s philosophy, said Miles, is that “every human being is worthy of the same medical care you or I would want for our children.”

Christains In US Helping Muslims Immigrants Resettle
Quote:The 27-year-old Keller has lots of Muslim friends. He runs a nonprofit outside of Atlanta called The Lantern Project that trains refugees in trades. Many of them come from Muslim-majority countries such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere...“To me as a Christian, a follower of Jesus, he called us to love our neighbors, period. Something that’s become very important to me is that we are not loving our neighbors well,” Keller says.
Good thread, Bella.

I appreciate the contribution and the kind words, Boru - I'm just trying to move on from some of the nonsense that I have posted on this site in the past. With the constant Trump threads and other depressing stuff going on, we need some positivity around these parts anyway.

Quote:A Christian charity has provided thousands of war-affected Syrian children living in refugee camps in Lebanon with counselling.
The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (Sciaf) and Caritas Lebanon have come together to help Syrian children deal with the horrors that they have seen during the ongoing Syrian War.
Psychologist Lina Zaarour, who runs one-to-one counselling sessions at the Caritas centre in the Bekaa Valley region in Lebanon said: "There is not one family that escaped the death of a relative, and all of the children have experienced violent scenes."
The sessions are in high demand; 1.5 million Syrians are now living in Lebanon, including hundreds of thousands of children.
Children are referred to the counselling service by case workers at medical centres. At present, 200 people a month attend sessions.
As well as one-to-one sessions, the centre provides art therapy.

We had these people present in church last week as an example of Christianity in action--responding to the needs of the community.
Quote:Bethany Christian Services is a global nonprofit organization that brings families together and keeps families together. Strengthening families for the well-being of children is our top priority. Our services include adoption, foster care, and pregnancy counseling. We also provide counseling to families, assist refugees and immigrants resettling in the U.S., and partner with several international countries to help keep families together. The work we do equips families to be the answer for children in need—as Christ intended.

"Interfaith" is by definition heretical. So to be a 'good' Christian, one needs to be a 'bad' one.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

No it is not. Interfaith means "relating to or between different religions or members of different religions." In the context above, Christians are working with Jews to effect a greater good. It would be decidedly unchristian not to on the basis of "working with Jews"

But Jesus exhorted his followers to avoid associating with non-Jews, so, to that extent, working with Jews IS unChristian.

Religion 101 stuff:
We're right, everyone else is wrong wrong wrong and they are going to burn burn burn
If they won't convert, fuck 'em.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

They are pro-birthers, not pro-lifers. They'll help the woman thru the pregnancy, after delivery, they'll set the mother/child up with other community support. Pretty much sounds like their support stops after birth, as christ intended.
According to the site the "counseling" is not free, They'll help bill insurance, get set up for medicaid, or offer sliding scale billing, as christ intended.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
