This is not about truth.  This is about branding war.  Truth can inform how to win wars, but truth does not win wars.

You want to brand the other side in a may that does the most damage.   The way to do that is to make anyone who chose to stay Republican in the next 4 years are irrevocably linked to trump in the minds of 51% of the electorate, and then unsalvageably destroy trump in the minds of those same 51% of the electorate

Obama fucked up by peeling the label off of the plan he adopted and sticking his name on it.
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
