Chechen authorities ‘round up’ more than 100 gay men
April 4, 2017 at 8:29 am
I'm not surprised, but...
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/chechn...64486.html
Quote:Chechen authorities have allegedly rounded up more than 100 men who are suspected to be gay and subjected to torture and murder, according to a Russian newspaper and human rights campaigners.
Newspaper Novaya Gazeta found that dozens of men aged between 16 and 50 had mysteriously disappeared off the streets and three people were killed in the round up. Among the men were well known faces on local television and religious leaders.
“In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders,” Novaya Gazeta reported, adding that authorities posed as men looking for dates online.
Spokesman for Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadyrov, Alvi Karimov, said the report was “absolute lies and disinformation” and claimed gay people did not exist in the state.

And the asshole GOP are Christians as well to fucking stupid along with Russian Orthodox Christians to understand there really isn't that much difference between their bigotry against LGBT and that of Islam. USA may be slightly ahead sure, but back in the 70s you had gays arrested, you had Harvey Milk murdered. Even today in my state you have morons thinking mass rape and molestation will happen in public high traffic bathrooms when they should be more worried about perps in their own families, friends and positions of power.

Religion, in this particular case Islam, definitely plays a part in anti-LGBT bigotry however it is important to remember that not every religious person is like that. You will always have assholes of every description and affiliation.
It wasn't my intention to bring up the religious side of things though. I'm just focusing on the human rights violations. The International community should pressure Russia (and their autonomous Republics) into reversing their discriminatory laws and practices.

"You cannot arrest or repress people who just don't exist in the Republic. If such people existed in Chechnya, law enforcement would not have to worry about them, as their own relatives would have sent them to where they could never return."
— Alvi Karimov, spokesman for Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, on reports that gay man have been detained and killed by Chechnyan authorities

Nobody is arguing that. But our entire species history globally mostly frowns on it. Even Japan as now only just gotten around to allowing civil unions in it's first prefecture last year. I don't think most Buddhists or even Hindus are accepting of it. Our recent acceptance as a species is mostly in the west, but even then, still not a majority accepted globally.
Our species does not understand evolution. Most humans see sex as solely for reproduction, more conservative and religious societies certainly do. Evolutionary biology proves that sexual behavior is not only for reproduction but also for social bonding and has a benefit even without creating a new life.
Islam still, while stuck in it's own dark ages far more than the rest of the world, even given that, still does not own a patent on human cruelty or bigotry. Even outside the issue of LGBT bigotry, even India and China still have a huge population that is sexist and places blame on the female if they get sexually assaulted. No, not saying everyone, but again, I am speaking in global terms of averages of attitudes.
Yes, absolutely the international community should put pressure on Russia to back off their bullshit anti LGBT laws, but we also need to do that with our right wing here in America. Again, "at least we don't throw them off rooftops" is watered down bigotry.
