He's not even a Democratic Socialist. He still believes in a free market. He's a Social Democrat (which I identify as too.) I hate how he calls himself a socialist when he clearly isn't. Just gives the other side fuel to dismiss him and his supporters.

Ah no we have a crazy left in the US. Don't have the time to go into it, but I live in a place where the communists like to pretend they are progressive while they are really the communist party of our state haha:

There is no significant liberal force in our Congress though. The Democratic party is majority centrist. Getting nowhere. They're right, the country as a whole is to the right.

Some people see communists everywhere.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Personally, I like to call it Kaufman Logic. Not after Andy, after Theodore. Don't  know who Theodore Kaufman was? He wrote a little book called Germany Must Perish! The content was pretty much what you'd expect. It was self-published in 1941 in America just before they entered The War, and reception in his native land was best described as bemusement, at least when it wasn't ignored entirely.

In Germany, on the other hand, it was widely infamous, heavily publicised by Julius Streicher (who actually cited it as an excuse to explain his venomous tenure with Die Sturmer during the Nuremberg Trial), Goebbels cited it as an example of why anything they did to Americans and Jews was justifiable as self-preservation (and privately said "Had he written this book for us, he could not have made it any better."), it became widely taught as an example of "why we fight" in the classrooms and elsewhere, and even when they finally made the infamous "Yellow star" mandatory for all Jews in September 1941 (yes, it really took that long) they put out a flyer for the "Aryans" tying the people wearing them with Kaufman's ideas.

All this over a crank whose ideas, in a sane world, would be relegated to the ideological side shows of political thought (Rationalwiki, perhaps). But, like the Nazis holding up Theodore Kaufman as a shining example of everyone being out to get them when he was little  more than an idiot with access to a printing press, Scooby here seems convinced that it's a perfectly logical conclusion to take the most out-there aspects of the left and conflate them with everything to the left of the ever-increasingly-right-wing Republican Party, as if it's all the same.

Also, I can't help but notice that that Communist Party website he linked to doesn't seem to have done much in the past four years except maybe reblog essays by other people on Facebook. Could it be that the Communist Party actually isn't that relevant these days?

Yeah I think Bernie is in line with Democratic Socialists of America. Both believe in a free market for Consumer goods but that healthcare should not be profit driven and that the government should help more with education.

So really yeah Social Democrat. but Bernie and the DSA call themselves socialists.

Scooby if you think Obama is a Communist, he made the some of the Bush Tax cuts permanent, and cut small business taxes over 10 times. He had military interventions (although many of them were drone strikes) in 7 different countries. Obamacare is essentially the "Individual Mandate" plan of Nixon and Romney. i beg you, look it up. He was a Centrist.

When Bill Clinton started making decisions by 'triangulation' the Republicans had to go farther right to distinguish themselves from his Centristiness.
Politics have been going farther right ever since.

Strictly speaking, Bernie may not fit with European ideas of Democratic socialism, but, bear in mind, America is a nation whose politics have become more or less right-leaning all around. Ian Hislop of Private Eye said a couple years ago, "Well, you have the Democrats, who are right wing, the Republican party who are very right wing, and the Tea Party, who are mad." And things have only gotten more insane from there.

definitely someone worth listening to. I find him sharp too as well and calm and open. He is possibly the best voice on the American right at this moment in time

I beg to differ. IMHO the best voice for American conservatism is Victor Davis Hanson.

Ouch, that would be unfortunate?  The man's a neocon crank who espouses a doctrine of cultural superiority and beats the drum of perpetual war.  Recently, he's hopped onto the fake news bandwagon of trump apologism..with the usual flair™ for common obama blaming.

Let me come at it from another angle, do you think that his voice best encapsulates the stuff that bumps around inside american conservatives heads...or that he is the most credible advocate for the justification of those things that bounce around inside their heads?
