"Senseless" used in reporting crimes.

"Senseless" used in reporting crimes.
This isn't about one event, but how stupid it gets over used. There is a national story out now about a sicko who murdered an old man and posted the video on Facebook, the video was taken down of course and the account deleted.

But the use of the word, when this happens, like with other murders or mass shootings or terrorist shootings, domestic or not, I really hate the use of the word "senseless". There is always a psychology behind a violent act by a perp. Even in this case this sicko taped himself saying his love interest drove him crazy, drove him to gamble, and he lost everything. There is your explanation. A guy who was so selfish and narcissistic and delusional he had to take his pain out on others.

But, even with the Boston bombers, while we call that religious terrorism, the underlying factor in that case was that the older brother was simply pissed that he lost his kick boxing license for domestic violence, that was most likely the real reason he did what he did, he wanted to take his failure out on everyone else. Even with someone mentally ill  like the VA tech shooter, even that makes sense. Nobody vetted him well enough and he had no prior record when he bought the firearms. Out of all of them the VA shooter while horrible was mentally ill. The others were merely angry and delusional.

Crimes happen for a reason, certainly not good justifications by the perp, but there is a very natural explanation as to why humans do bad things. No different than we can explain the conditions that lead to a hurricane even though nobody wants a hurricane affecting them.

It won't happen but I do wish reporters would stop calling violence "senseless". It is when we understand human behavior even bad behavior we can seek to reduce those events.

I think they're just saying the acts make no sense to a rational person.

senseless, unacceptable
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I think i said this in another post but the videos werent posted they were streamed also this also had to do with the guy and his ex or something like that to cause him
to have a mental breakdown. Then it doesn't really help when CNN of all news organizations say video games caused this a person died and blaming video games isn't problem.
The guy probably had a mental break down and went on a killing spree because his ex broke up with him or something like that.

Unacceptable fine, still really no need to use "senseless". I do think that has a long term effect on society which allows them to end up having the attitude of "lock em up and throw away the key" to sweep it under the rug rather than address conditions that lead humans do do those horrible things.

An explanation is only an explanation, not an excuse. Again, we know tornado's exist and the conditions that they form in, that doesn't mean we want those tornado's hurting us, so we track weather and we build shelters and safe rooms. Crime and mental illness are as explainable as weather patterns.

If you are well paid, not behind on your bills you are far less likely to steal a loaf of bread from the store. If you are mentally ill, but have the support of family, you are not abused, and you have a psychiatrist/therapist and even medication you also are less likely to hurt yourself or others.

That sicko murdering that innocent pedestrian made sense. The murderer was probably abused growing up so by the time he had that love interest, he had no good communication skills, no history of healthy relationships so he went from abused to the abuser. I don't mean "it made sense" in that it was desirable, no, of course it was horrible. It still had a very natural explanation.

use of the word "moments" when describing a time period of less than (pick one or more) 10 seconds, 60 seconds, 5 minutes'

The shooter killed himself in Eerie Pennsylvania.
on a side not a lot of people are actually killing themselves rather than going to jail
it makes you wonder how bad our criminal justice system is.
