Subjective Morals and Societal Whims

RE: Subjective Morals and Societal Whims
Min posted about a pastor-Baptist I think that sexually assaulted a girl from age 12 to the age of 16. I think it was his Perverted Priests thread.

still, it's remarkable so much heresy is bandied about here, and not all (or even most) of it by the atheist side . . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

RE: Subjective Morals and Societal Whims
From the comments of YahwehIsTheWay and of the disinterested InteresedUser that I read, I think I figured the underlying idea.

Namely, what these two guys seem to claim is that we human beings are vile fiends, worse even than cattle or dogs, who need to be leashed, bound, handcuffed, and probably a muzzle put on our mouths so that we wouldn't "get out there and rape, pillage, and kill everything that we see in front of us." The only way to avoid such evil that we are so eager and willing to do, we, the foul diabolical monstrosities that we are, must accept to be bound, handcuffed, leashed and enslaved by some priests / religious authorities and thus accept to relinquish our autonomy and become slaves of holiness. God is the only one who can suppress the abominable evil that lives inside us and which could erupt at any time. The only solution is to live like a slave, of course, where you have no will of your own, where you merely do what you're told, where you obey. If you're not a slave of God then you are a slave of wickedness, of Satan, right? Whatever you do you are always a slave. There is no such thing as a full-fledged human being, only a monster.

Talk about dehumanisation...

Really, if this is the world in which the two of them live, is there any point in debating over it?

Don't they all?

Either that, or it's a post and run.

Shall we begin there?

Morality came into existence when primitive people with low birth rates realized that it would do no good to kill someone in their own clan for any reason.

They realized that for survival, everyone was needed.

The one concept that reasonably explains morality better than anything else is the following:

I like to see your source because it sounds like you pulled that straight out of your backside. Not even animals make a habit of killing thier own species for no reason.

Quote:A religious individual needs a belief in god to do good whereas an atheist does good because it is the right thing to do, no god needed.

What's an atheists metric for determining what qualifies as good?

It's an anthropologically sound study.

It simply stakes a google search.

I figure it follows along the lines of ensuring no harm comes to another.

Theists were in favor of slavery, which harmed others.
Theists were in favor of burning witches, which harmed others.
Theists were in favor of plenty of things that harmed others, all in accordance with the bible and the god in which they believed.

Well, not giving gullible folks the stupid idea if they believe hard enough they can drink poison and handle deadly serpents for starters . . .
