I probably should take a course just in trees at some point.

Hmmm I thought you would have gotten that with your course.

It could be any of the Prunus sp

Haven't heard of a Sour Cherry before.

We have a Bing Cherry and a Stella Cherry tree. The Stella was bought to pollinate the Bing as it isn't self pollinating. As it turns out, I actually prefer the sour taste of the Stella more than the sweet Bings. Most cherries used for baking I think are referred to as 'sour' cherries .. or maybe that is just a local usage?

I took two of three ID classes so far. Few of them were flowering trees. I doubt any more cherries were added into the third course - it most focused on hollies and boxwoods, as I recall, as they are popular landscape items.

I don't think most homeowners approve of the petal mess of cherries. Parks, of course, can afford them, as well as the ever-present bradford pears. Stinky-ass fuckers.

Boy, that phrase momentarily threw me for a loop. That'll teach me to skim through topics...
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Henceforth, let it be known that in 99% of cases, when I say "ID" I'm talking about "identification" of some sort. Mostly because "Intelligent Design" isn't something I even like to waste conversation time on.

Hey...summer....about apartment gardening...

Get yourself some pegboard and nail it/prop it up to a wall on the patio that gets the longest exposure...then all you have to do is run wire under and around the lip of your potting containers and keep them well watered.

That'll work for the smaller pots, Rhythm, but not the bigger ones. I'm going to have David build me a tiered stand so we can hide some of those plastic bins underneath it as well. Maybe a pegboard on the back of it, but you can see the dividers aren't that tall between balconies so I can't go very far with it. I don't think I'll have veggies this year.
