Not a good time for humanity, the ai singularity is here

RE: Not a good time for humanity, the ai singularity is here
AI on an advanced level is coming but as a few other commenters mentioned, I don't think we're anywhere near that point currently - I don't see the machines taking over anytime within any of our lifetimes. The AutoML project by Google is interesting but the starting point for AI taking over was reached before their project.

As for whether AI is a good thing or not - I'm not sure. But we humans are a greedy, selfish lot and tend to be pretty dumb when making decisions with long term consequences.

And AI equaling human brain complexity may be 25 or more years further off than Kurtzweil's estimates if Moore's Law holds...because we keep finding out our brains operation is more complex than we previously thought. Maybe a hundred-fold more complex, with a lot more happening at the dendrite level than was believed when Kurtzweill estimated a few years ago that it would be happening around 2029. So now I'm thinking around 2050-2060 if everything holds steady (which it probably won't, one way or the other).

Ai = artificial intelligence

That's the report from the third grade.

Artificial intelligence was amply demonstrated in 1977 when Deep Blue beat chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov. As impressive as IBM's achievement was, Deep Blue was just a computer doing computer shit, lots of switches in an on/off state. Was the machine actually playing chess or was it selecting from an enormous pool of options? I don't know. If that's what artificial intelligence is, then fine, ok.
Now artificial consciousness or self awareness is something very different, and we are nowhere near creating such a machine. Praise be.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

For an AI apocalypse, we don't need self-aware AI, we just need a random dumb AI we are all relying on, and then somehow screwup. As we are increasingly relying on AI, that scenario is quite likely.

Also, our neurons are "lots of switches in an on/off state" in a sense, so an artificial computer brain isn'e too different.

AI ! Making life easier for hedonists like me.

Hal! Go mow the grass and cook me a nice Paella while I sip this excellent Bordeaux!

It looks like you're correct though, in terms of mapping brains, we haven't gotten to chimp level yet. (Gotten as far as rats)

But other methods like "Deep Learning" don't focus on mapping brains exactly, and that is where the job threat comes from. We have to start preparing for this jobless market.

Kurzweil seems to be good at predicting the future.
My bet is on Kurzweil for human level brain machines for 2029!

I don't personally know if we are no where near, but based on expert predictions, (kurzweil) we will at least have relatively cheap human level brain power devices by 2029.

Nice summary, not because it agrees with my mindset, but because it seems to agree with facts Smile

A.I. is so passé.

The thing you need to worry about is the Geordie contribution to computer science.

Y.I.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Even though human brains may be much more complex than Kurzweil knew when he made that prediction? I roughly agreed with Kurzweil's prediction until I found out what's going on with recent neurological focus on dendrites.
