Roger Moore dead at 89!

RE: Roger Moore dead at 89!
Well, it's nice to know I'm not alone in considering Roger Moore the definitive James Bond. Then again, I'm 27, so I may be alone in my age group.

And, honestly, I think the campiness of Roger Moore's Bond films really fits my idea of James Bond anyway. He's not supposed to be John Le Carre.

Also, motherfucker once beat the crap out of LEE MARVIN. And it wasn't just for a movie.

Well, ranking the various 007 actors is problematic since they appeared in differing numbers of films. My all time fav is On Her Majesty's Secret Service with Lazenby as 007 and is my favorite actor in the role, but only on the basis of a single film which rather affects things. I've probably spent far more hours enjoying Moore in the role, but he wasn't in my favorite bond film, so I don't know how to rank them.

I haven't even watched any of the Daniel Craig ones, BTW . . .

The last bond movie is the worst of the lot IMHO.

Of course the last Bond was the worst, Danial Craig is not a fit to play the James Bond role. What needs to be done is the name "James Bond" needs to be retired and a new set of novels/scripts is to be written under a new agent. That would be the most practical solution to the issue of these types of movies failing. If it does happen that way, let's hope that it's not something entirely moronic like -James Bonds son or daughter takes up the role of the 008, to avenge the death of the their father 007- if that were to happen, that would be a terrible story line.

And when Q retires, R needs to take over naturally!

(Brace yourselves, corny Bond jokes ahead)

At the risk of pissing off the rest of you, Moore was the worst Bond ever. Couldn't act, couldn't fight. Craig is far and away the best and most accurate Bond of the post-Fleming adaptations.

Ahem.

Submitted for your approval, Roger Moore taking on Lee Motherfucking Marvin (all-around badass, decorated World War II veteran, everything John Wayne liked to pretend to be except maybe a perennial box office draw, and pretty strong leftist FWIW) for the movie Shout at the Devil.

Now, before you dismiss that as just a clip from a movie, apparently, during the filming of this movie, Lee Marvin accused him of looking like a wimp and picked a fight with him (my guess is he tried something the old "Just because he pushed you?" routine from The Dirty Dozen). By all accounts, Roger won that fight just as easily (perhaps even more so) as he did the movie fight. Lee Marvin's response: "The guy is built like granite. Nobody will ever underestimate him again".

As a side note, they became the best of friends afterward.

So, what was that about how Roger Moore couldn't fight?

As Moore himself said, he employed a total of three different facial expressions when playing Bond:  Left eyebrow raised, right eyebrow raised, and both eyebrows raised when grabbed by Jaws.

And then he learned two more facial expressions and said he was miffed he never got an Oscar nod after learning those two.
