How is that?

Leave the car running and the doors unlocked.

Well you can laugh at it after the fact sure.  Big Grin

I do like a stupid criminal story too.

I've seen stories of idiots leaving their real IDs at the store they just robbed.

Heard one long ago where a guy robbed a deli jumped into the trunk of a car to hide, idiot didn't know it was an UNMARKED POLICE CAR.

You gotta love that shit, makes the cop's job real easy.

But no, he he, we aren't supposed to encourage them to find another crime.  Tongue

Got to love the crooks who arrest themselves. I wonder if the police just took off with him in the trunk, and pulled him out at the station.

You can't tell from the video if it was running, but anyway I think this is a completely ridiculous stance. She was getting gas. There is nothing wrong with leaving the car unlocked while you are getting gas. Do you always lock the car when doing this? Poll people and ask them if they do.

Not sure what you mean by this.

In theory you should be able to leave you car or house unlocked, but that is not reality.

I have empathy for her reaction I think any rational person would, but it simply was not the best idea.

Just a few years ago I heard a convenience store owner berate a customer for locking his keys in his car. "You're not going to get your car stolen here!"

Hmmmm . . . .

I think people are very shitty and judgmental to each other. She was right there, pumping gas. There is nothing "incredibly casual" about it.
We apparently disagree on this.

I think it's very shitty of you to partially blame her for this incident.

I won't ask if you have kids, I really don't want to know.

Did you even check the link in this thread where even SHE admits it was NOT the best idea?

I was NOT judging her intent. I get the feeling of it, I get the emotion of it, but it remains that she got lucky, and most of the time when you try to physically confront someone trying to take something from you you raise the risk of injury.

I was NOT blaming her. I was warning that the math is against an untrained professional and she merely got lucky.

NOBODY was victim blaming. There is no shame, even for a man, when someone tries to rob EVEN A MAN, there is no shame in giving up your object to survive. Again, objects can be replaced, your life cannot be replaced.

The asshole who attempted it was 100% WRONG.

I get really sick of people thinking survival is always about fight. Survival most of the time is finding the path of least resistance. I would say the same thing even if it were a guy jumping on the hood. No kid was in the car and it was not an attempted rape. To me it would be no different if someone stuck a gun to my head demanding my wallet. I can stop my credit card and checks by calling the police. I can have GPS track my vehicle if it is stolen. I cannot replace my life if the perp shoots me for resisting.

If she didn't jump on the hood, guess what, THE GAS STATION HAD VIDEO and it made local news, and I am sure they called the police. I am quite sure by now the perp already ditched it and or the police because of the other vehicle know who the suspects are.

Even police will back off a chase if it gets too risky to the public.

If a woman or man falls for a Nigerian lottery scam they are NOT to blame, but it does help to tell people to HANG UP when people call you and you don't know who they are.

She got lucky, her gender is not the issue. If a man had done the same thing I would say the same thing. At the time it started the victim did not know the perp, they did not know if they were aggressive, or high on anything or had a weapon. Any cop who makes traffic stops will tell you not to assume. She merely reacted, WHILE UNDERSTANDABLE was not the best idea.

I am sure when the cops showed up to take the report they probably said the same thing, and those cops would have said the same thing to a man if they had been the victim.

Jesus Christ. I was reacting to your statement that she was incredibly casual with her child's safety.
I don't even think we disagree on most of what you are saying here.
