Can religion be a type of Stockholm syndrome?
Wiki
Quote:a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity. These feelings, resulting from a bond formed between captor and captives during intimate time spent together,

This sounds eerily like the relationship that theists have with their war mongering genocidal imaginary friend?
He has threatened them with a painful eternal hell if they don't comply with his demands!
About the only thing he didn't ask for was 10 million dollars and a helicopter!

So in return, his victms just want to love him unconditionally, donate money to his cause regularly, and build temples in his honour?
How the hell does that even work? Dunno    Am I missing something here?
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

Absolutely. We have had sone members here who described their experience just in these terms.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Yeah, I've heard from time to time that it's a lot like an abusive relationship, or Stockholm syndrome. The only thing keeping it going is cultural pressure. Your community is your captor.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
