Stew on that.
No the simple reason Trump got in is that the US electoral system is fundamentally anti-democratic, from the Electoral College fatally favouring empty sstates, to the ability of rich people to openly buy both politicians and elections all the way through to the fact that the whole procees is controlled by political appointees, making voter supression, gerrymandering anod over and under counting of votes endemic in the system.
And by extension, that makes the whole damn useless constitution anti-democratic because these defects were written into it deliberately.
If NEARLY half of voters didnt alreay vote fot him, EC system would have been irrelevant.
Tackattack IS right that TRump only reflects american society. TRump is not the problem, he is th ecanary in the coal mine. Even IF biden is voted into office in November, most likely 40% of voters will still have voted for Trump, THATS the real problem!

Well, the original purpose of the EC was specifically to be anti-democratic. The founding fathers wanted a republic and not a democracy.
Of course, they also wanted no political parties and we know how long that lasted.
One of the fears the FF had was that democracies often fail because of the rise of political partisanship and of demagogues.
And, if you look around, they analyzed that correctly.

Republic and democracy is not an either or proposition. Just like (a)theism and (a)gnosticism.
Evidence: There are democratic republics out there.

They didn't. Democracies fail when oppositional views are supressed (which is what the founding fathers wanted, they didn't want somebody coming along telling the American people that the system was fucking them over and working as designed), not when they occur.
Look at Athens, it's greatness was built on its factions, it was only when the aristocrats supressed the the demotics that it failed.

Even Trump can't understand himself

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
