It's despicable that we didn't support the resolution, but the reason why isn't hard to guess. Just look at the list of other countries that joined us in not condemning the discriminatory use of the death penalty for LGBT people, and ask yourself why we would be in bed with them.

In the U.S., we like to portray ourselves as a beacon of hope and leadership on the question of human rights -- unless doing so gets in the way of geo-politics and corporate interest. Then fuck the oppressed.  God forbid we do anything to displease our strategic partners in the shittiest places on earth, or the profit spigot might get turned off.
