Amazing movies that are terrible biographies

RE: Amazing movies that are terrible biographies
Can't believe Braveheart hasn't been mentioned. Fun movie, but I think it was actually voted as the most historically inaccurate movie of all time. Lemme see if I can grab a source for that.

EDIT: Hah, the source quote is great.

Quote:In 2009, the film was second on a list of "most historically inaccurate movies" in The Times. In the humorous non-fictional historiography An Utterly Impartial History of Britain (2007), author John O'Farrell notes that Braveheart could not have been more historically inaccurate, even if a "Plasticine dog" had been inserted in the film and the title changed to William Wallace and Gromit.

Oh, yeah, and The Patriot. Mel Gibson's good at making great movies with no accuracy.

As long as it involves killing Englishmen or painting Jews badly, he's in!

Most all portrayals of Wallis Warfield Spencer Simpson Windsor prior to 2011 have been hindered by not having available the 'secret letters' revealed on the PBS show, Wallis Simpson: The Secret Letters.

Makes the mess all the sadder knowing her heart was always with Simpson, not the king, and regardless, she was stuck with the latter . . .

So, didn't she cheat on him to marry the king? I only know about the king's relationship with her because of the whole Nazi thing.

Alan Turing wasn't autistic, he was funny, sociable and great with children. But idiot movie producers only get genius if it's in the form of an autistic recluse.

In a similar vein Gladiator.

For an Irish perspective Michael Collins.

Pretty much every Hollywood biography is going to be shit for historical accuracy.

Wallis and her husband, Simpson, enjoyed the perks of her being a favorite of the king, all manner of gifts and boodle appeared, and the opportunities for contacts with other important people, business, social, etc, was well worth 'sharing' Wallis with the king.

The Simpsons never expected the king to fall in love with Wallis, she had replaced another favorite, and expected to be replaced in turn at some point, and was in it for the fun and prizes.

And then Eddie fucked up everything by falling in love with her.  and once that happened, she was stuck with him.

Alex, we loved Imitation Game, but Tibs had the same complaints. Nonetheless, his real life was equally heartbreaking.
