I'm extremely glad that you like it. Garlic crushing is a contentious enough topic as it is.

So, the Universe...how does that work, exactly?

Boru Everything around you relevant to your life operates according to this law, to extreme precision:

If you had to point to someone as the next Maxwell, who would it be?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Great question. For the analogy to work, we are looking for someone who worked on unified field equations of some sort (in Maxwell's case, he unified the electric and magnetic effects and predicted the existence of EM waves), but also did pioneering work in other fields of physics (in Maxwell's case, statistical physics). Steve Weinberg comes to mind as the best candidate. He unified (more or less, a pet peeve I won't go into here) the electromagnetic and weak force and predicted the Z boson, and he is very active in cosmology.

Awesome, as a follow up...do you have any possible practical applications based on Weinburg's work which are holding on funding and/or a person to market them to housewives? For example, a way for a parent of 4 to be in more than one place or state simultaneously?

Not quite yet because GeV scale accelerators are so big and expensive. But - with the perfection of wakefield accelerator technology in the coming decades, we *will* have tabletop Z boson generators, and believe me when I tell you that with a Z-ray cooked brisket on the table, your husband will fall in love with you all over again when he comes home from work.

Could you explain in layman terms what Emmy Noether was working on, particularly the whole symmetry and conservation laws thing? Thanks.
