I am talking more in terms of mass media, but yea. The irony is that before all that the GOP were the Democrats and the Democrats were the GOP, but Nixon's Southern strategy flipped all that. 

It's only been in the past couple years I've heard an increase of GOP supporters try to point out that King and Lincoln were republicans. All I have to say is that was then and this is now.

I will only say as loyal as minorities have been to the democratic party since Nixon, we still have to do a better job on delivery not just pay lip service to social issues. It still has to translate to economic success. The only key is to destroy what Reagan started, in deregulation and if we can do that both whites and blacks would benefit. 

Dems have the social issues spot on, but what we have not done effectively since Reagan is selling the economics well. Far too often we end up getting held hostage and end up compromising too much with the GOP.

When Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 he famously said "I've lost the south for the democrats."  What is less well known is the vote count on the Civil Rights Bill.

In the senate:

• Democratic Party: 46–21   (69–31%)
  
• Republican Party: 27–6   (82–18%)
  

In the house:

• Democratic Party: 153–91   (63–37%)
  
• Republican Party: 136–35   (80–20%)
  

In fact it was the senate minority leader, Everitt Dirksen, who deserves a lot of the credit for getting the bill through the senate but Johnson was the president and the president always gets the credit or the blame.

Mostly, I agree. But there's a subtle bigoted undercurrent to much of Trump's support. I'm not say all or even most of his supporters are racist, but as the article highlighted, he used dog-whistles very well ... and enough dogs came a-runnin'.

Yea but 45 simply improved on the dog whistle tactic the GOP had been using for decades. Fox was using that dog whistle crap long before 45 considered running. But the GOP really shit their pants when the black guy won.

It goes back before Fox was a gleam in Murdoch's eye. Nixon used the same tactics in his "Southern Strategy".

This article describes ultra leftists if anything. The need to enforce views on others along with virtue signaling is an avid leftist action. The need of hiearchy though applies for both groups although where hierarchy should remain is disputed amongst both groups. Leftists are avid racist who like the ADL are hell point on enforcing racist views suppressing free speech on race and religion. Conservatives love minorities unless they are classical Bible thumping conservatives and entitlement is purely a majority found in lefties.

We conservatives do not think anybody is entitled to anything. This is a massive part of conservatism and the push for free-marke capitalism although this push is not found in all conservative strains of thought.

As much as I love my younger sister whom is an atheist too, she didn't like Hillary, and I kept begging her to hold her nose. She never liked the GOP though. 

It makes me even more upset those who sat out and are now pissed because SCOTUS is now going to take that much longer to reverse.
