In those instances where religion has a negative effect (persecution/fixated on sin) more mental disorders are identified.

Makes perfect sense. The only logical conclusion to draw is, why take the risk when the rule book reads like a fucking room in an asylum where the walls are smeared with the feces of its schizophrenic occupant trying to communicate?

I just look at it as a mental crutch that people have been programmed to need.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Which religion? My personal experience over 60 years has been that Christians (generally speaking) are kool, calm, tough-minded and fearless, whereas nonchristians are (generally speaking) jumpy and irritable like wagons without springs, jolted by every pebble on the road..Smile

Taking your word for it ...In my 55 years in Australia, I don't think I've met one yet.
Apart from the Greek dudes in the Orthodox church (weddings/funerals) making smoke in that rattle thing they use and the 3 bald Greeks as backup singers! *rolls eyes*
They also like dealing in cash for wedding services!!! Must be allowed in the bible somewhere Dunno

I actually know 5 people(that I personally know) that went cuckoo cos of church, Jesus and shalalalala.

I've personally never met an atheist with any sort of mental issues(I myself have them) because of atheism. Seems a lot of people think the opposite and we have plenty of atheists here let's see someone coming forward and saying "I had such an such mental problems because I didn't believe in cuckoo shit"

True Christians give cash away, not rake it in..Smile
Anyway if people voluntarily like donating  to churches for services provided and the upkeep of the building etc, it seems fair to me..Smile
Even Jesus and the disciples had a "money bag", so presumably people gladly donated to keep them from starving.
BTW, guess who was in charge of their money bag?- It was Judas! (Yes that Judas)..Smile

Bolded mine.  If you could come up with a good, clear definition of a True Christian so the rest of us (and the rest of Christians) could tell, that'd be nice.  And while you're at it, make a definition for a True Scotsman as well.

Good point, nobody has ever been to define what a "true" Christian is.
For example Jehovah's Witnesses think they're "trues", but I think they're satanic to the core, and they think the same about me!
One definition of a "true" Christian that I like is- Somebody who likes Jesus.
If we like him, he becomes like our powerful gang leader and his strength automatically trickles down to us.
So I suppose if an atheist likes Jesus,  it'll at least get them to the pearlies and maybe even through them..Smile
As for the Scotch, half think they're "true Scotsmen" because they want to split from the UK and become an independent nation, but the other half regard themselves as "trues" because they want to stay in the powerful UK and reap its benefits for Scotland, so which are the "trues"? You tell me..Smile

Yeh. "Disease" in mental terms isn't an issue of belief-- it almost always talks about function/dysfunction. You can believe any goof shit you want, but if you get out of bed every morning, go do your job, and for the most part abide by the laws of the land, you aren't diseased.

RE: Personal experience says religious folks are more prone to mental diseases
Let me rephrase.

I think negative environmental factors certainly can trigger someone who is already genetically susceptible/prone to mental illness. Like everything else, religion can certainly be a negative or positive environmental factor. So in that sense, yes. Religion could play a role or be a contributing factor in someone's mental illness. But to say theists are more prone to mental illness is incorrect. Genetics makes people more prone to mental illness. Unless in extreme cases where something very traumatic happened, someone who has no genetic susceptibility to mental illness isn't going to become mentally ill.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
