That's a very painful belief, no matter what believers I talk to, the same desperate and painful but hopeful mood is showing it dark face. Its f hard to cultivate that nightmarish worldview of I either suffer now than agonize later. Its easier to be cynical compared to shit those people go trough by their own wish.

In a related story, the JW's here had a table set up outside the grocery store. Here's the thing, they were not giving anything away, only selling (trinkets) and asking for donations.

So I'm confused, why would they be asking people, who they consider sinners, for money?  Wouldn't that money be tainted as far as they are concerned? 

Has anyone heard that the JW's are falling on hard times?

They have a recruiting set up just outside the Gosport ferry. On Friday I actually saw someone talk to them I have been using the ferry daily for a year, first time they've had a nibble.

I'm living in the Bible Belt.  Some craptastic asshole keeps leaving pamphlets and chick tracts in the break-room.  I keep dumping them in the trash.  I need a better strategy - whoever is doing this probably is praisin' the LAWD every time they see 'em go missing.  I have thought about putting them in a pot and setting them on fire . . . sprinklers might go off and whee, everybody can go home!  But I'll bet the AF crew can come up with better ideas . . .

If you are comfortable with people at work and you know nobody knows what your hand writing looks like, write verses in them pointing to the nasty parts, like the incest, genocide, creating evil and even spreading dung in human's faces. 

I've left notes, not defaced, but left notes on scrap paper doing that with hotel bibles. Someone at some point will pick it up, even if it is just the maid cleaning the room.

I will second the idea of giving verses that point to things most good christians will gloss over. Most of the old testament is horrific, if you don't go in with the conclusion that Yahweh is infallably good and just, and can do no wrong.

Regardless of the NT trying to escape the prior violent God, skip to the final end times book and the same God goes back to being a violent vengeful dick. 

The entire bible reads like a abusive spouse.

Part 1. "I beat you because I love you."
Part 2. "I wont beat you but act like a stalker and commit a fake suicide."
Part 3. "Remember when I promised not to beat you again? I lied."

Yes, the NT puts a fresh coat of paint on the turd, but it's still a turd, and sometimes the smell still comes through, like in revelations. Talk of hellfire, thought crime, and slaves obeying cruel masters are other examples. He also didn't do himself any favors when he blew off his mother, or killed a fig tree for not producing fruit out of season.
