Game of Thrones (no spoilers in the OP)

Game of Thrones (no spoilers in the OP)
I just finally finished the 5th book. I'm almost regretting having read them because now I don't know what the hell in supposed to do with myself until the next book comes out. It could be years before I find out what happens next. Or it could never happen...I've heard the author is old and is working on other books right now.

I'm trying to decide if I should watch the show or not. I kind of don't want to because I highly doubt the tv series can give me as good of an ending as the books will. I also heard that the show isn't the same as the books. But then...I feel like I'll go insane if I don't find out what happens. Are you other book readers going as crazy as I am?

If and when he ever finishes the next book, I'll read it.  In the meantime the HBO series is excellent.

I can't imagine there are many book readers who aren't watching the show too.

RE: Game of Thrones (no spoilers)
The show is pretty faithful to the books. Any changes are usually in scope. Multiple characters are condensed into one, storylines are left out. Asha Greyjoy is named Yara because they didn't want viewers to mistake her name for the Wildling Osha.

Now that the show is beyond the books, I will find it interesting to see how the books differ.

I read all the books before I watched a single episode. The first live episode I watched was season 4. I do not regret it even one little itty bitty bit.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Read the first book, and didn't really get into it. Not sure if it's just not my thing or what.

I definitely recommend reading the second book before you decide not to finish the series.
