I'm a big believer in "there is nothing to fear but fear itself" but I've felt a whole lot of visceral fear the last 6 months. My kid graduates high school in 7 (long) years. Assuming we're not scrounging for seed corn after a nuclear apocalypse or haven't died in a Civil War 2.0 by then, might be time to look at moving abroad.

The outrage of this problem was to expected among groups like these. It was only matter of time till something like this happened in the nation. This is his base at it's best. I'm tired of the politics that is everywhere, the people that did support the removal of racist historical artifacts did start a culture war with the south though. So, it does boil down to their fight that is dragging people in. If you stay quite on the matter, your told your bad person. If you apply logic to the issue, your called insensitive. It's a catch 22, no matter how you word it.
If I was a leader of a country, even if I felt that I had no standing personally; you would better siding with the approach that I'm a anti-nazi and do not condone the actions that transpired. I would of said that to the American people immediately, if your going to play with your government actions figures and toy sets, you need know how to play the game. (Just be glad he does not know of the following books the Art of War, and "The Prince") What happened was tragic, but at the same time this would be a perfect start to start the process of removing freedom of speech. Just be careful though, it would be unwise to be publicly connected to extreme view points that we have already seen the after math of... I find it best to tip toe around these types of issues, it makes life far less complicated. As I've gotten older, I've become curious about something. Is it normal not to have things like this effect you emotionally and carry on with your day. Only because your tired of having agree or disagree with a social issue that is a toxic argument to be begin with; and you know that opening your mouth about it will cause a temporary or permanent problem with other people. Does not wanting to be involved in a culture war automatically make you a part of the problem? Or just a lazy person who only cares primarily about himself? [...] Of course - you can't take away Civil War participation trophies from southern snowflakes. What will that do to their self-esteem? I mean - it's going to look as if they lost the damn war, or something...

What is really fucking sick is that 45 thinks one comment after 5 years of pandering to hate can stop all this. The GOP built it and it wont stop over night. If we don't have a global nuclear war, history will look at 45 as a dark blemish on our history. It never should have gotten this far.

This is what Trumps campaign led to. He spent his time rallying against PC culture, he spent his time giving his followers encouragement to be as violent and extreme as they want, and this is what it's leading to. He got the nazi's, the white nationalists, the klansmen, he got them all riled up and excited, and he's managed to get the left pissed off and equally worked up. Riots and violence like this are what happens when you spend most of your campaign trash talking and then win.
I hope future politicians will take note of how bad things are going for Trump, but I don't have faith in the people who elect those politicians.

I agree, anyone claiming standing up to 45 is a danger to free speech is ignoring the lessons of WW2 Germany, that is what happens when good people say nothing. Everyone knows I am hardly PC here, and will even go after my fellow liberals, but what the GOP and 45 have set up goes way beyond mere bluntness and blasphemy and criticism or ridicule. When politicians employ scapegoating and demagoguery you are not talking at that point about merely offending someone. America and the world for that matter need to stand up to political demagoguery. What you saw this weekend was the empowerment of one man and his ego. |
