They might be lucky to find 50 workers to staff facility.
Around here companies are advertising for workers and not getting too many applicants. I saw a McDonalds the other day with a sign outside wanting help. And yes, they are paying more than min wage. Another issue with scarce workers is if you do get someone to interview they might not pass a pee test . . . Or put their phone down long enough to be interviewed . . . The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
Oh, 90% of that staff Apple will bring in from elsewhere. The other 10% is janitorial/administrative.
There are long term benefits to Data Centers, they pay a LOT in sales/franchise taxes to the utility. I don't think they're worth the massive tax break they were given. The only other benefit is attracting future business. Being near a data center has benefits for other companies as well.  |
