No political party can survive without some minority support in America.

They may be but that doesn't speak to their backbone.  Do they have any spine at all, or does the national interest come after the needs of their own next re-election bid.  I think we know the answer to that question.

Of course. That selfishness is exactly why Graham and Ryan are now on board with legislation along these lines where five years ago they weren't.

RE: Trump May End DACA Program
Every president since Ronald Reagan, including Donald Trump, has followed DACA for humanitarian reasons.  Barak Obama, either out of an act of courage or foolishness, reduced it to writing and that writing was challenged in the courts and the courts said, "Congress writes the law, you don't. You can't change the law congress has written even though all your predecessors going back to Reagan have done so."

There would be way too much blow back for anyone to do that. He's shown to be one that is comfortable swimming up stream, but when the facts come out to him and everyone around him says no; even the most stubborn person tends to listen.

That would honestly be one of the imagination arguments that I would think the majority of Trump supporters would push back on. I'm sure there would be a few turds out there, but it wouldn't be a supportable push from any political figure's pulpit.

And how serious/sincere are the congressional Democrats about fixing this problem?

We will be able to tell by how much the DACA fix bill is larded up with irrelevant deal killing amendments Schumer and the rest see fit to fuck the kids with. I wonder, maybe a $2 billion dollar semi-Presidential Hillary Library or maybe increasing the number of associates on the SCOTUS and Schumer gets to pick them . . . .

Yeah, sadly for the person I know who is registered with DACA, there won't be any Congressional DACA bill in 6 months by Democrats or Republicans...

Im going to guess that 20 to 25% of the adult population will support this move. This is based on support for his previous immigration moves, which was about 35% support. So even if its much less, I wouldn't call 1 in 5 people "a few".

I may be wrong, but my number has historical precident.

It's sad and utterly disgusting that the figure for those favoring deportation is 26%.

But they don't want to be called 'deplorables'. Well, fuck them! They richly deserve it.

Existing immigration law (wiki notes legislation being passed in 1952, 1965, 1986, 1990, 1996) is what the situation defaults to with DACA off the table.

I'd note all those prior bills were passed with bipartisan support. Perhaps some particles of angst and invective might be appropriately thrown towards the Dems for their participation and consent in this ugly mess . . . .
