Why are people so obsessed with the show Game of Thrones?

I really don't understand what's so great about it. I constantly hear people talking about it. Then, then when they find out I don't watch it they act like I live under a rock. I honestly prefer shows like Family Guy, American Dad and other stuff of that genre. But that is just me. However, I don't think there is something wrong with someone when they call those shows stupid. (Sure, I tend to think perhaps they either A don't have a sense of humor or are easily offended. I am not the one to judge though. Then again, my favorite movies are kind of weird too. I love Pirates of the Carribbean and Godzilla (Yes, everything from the 50s and every other monsterverse film. Kajuis, Kong and so on). But again, I don't judge people for not liking them. Or at least I try not too. haha

I liked Family Guy and American Dad too. It just grew stale, having no real substance and continueing story.
A game of thrones (and especially A Song of Ice and Fire) is the exact opposite.
And I still like cartoons and comedies, but I prefer them to have an overarching storyline rather than episodic, unrelated things.

I know many people who don't watch GoT. I'll suggest the same thing I Always suggest. Give it a chance. It's really good.
But hey, no skin off my back if you don't.

I do't watch the TV show either. I read a few of the books, until there was a five year gap between a couple, and just moved on to other stuff. I think it's good.

While I don't care for the TV shows you mentioned I can agree that the show is a bit over hyped. I had a love hate relationship with the books and the show isn't any different. There are good things and bad things about it and I do watch it when I can (I'm like two seasons behind) but I wouldn't say someone is crazy for not watching it cause it's not that great.

Basically, there's no hard line between the "good" characters and the "bad" ones.
Each has very real motivations for doing what they do the way they do it.
Also, just because a character seems to be the main good guy, that doesn't mean that they are safe... you're always on edge.

At least, we were.... now that the show has passed ahead of the books, the writers are just going back to the old formula where the good guys are always safe and only the "bad" guys suffer...
But the dragons are now awesome to look at!

I watched about three minutes of it a while back. I flipped over to South Park and never looked back.
