German General election ends in 4 hours

I thought I'd mention it. AM will very likely remain in charge, the question is whether it will be in a coalition with the social democrats or the neoliberals. The green party joining in would not be completely out of the question as they have done that at the state level already. The other question is how many seats the cryptonazis will get. They have an unnerving 12% in recent polls.

Indeed the Germans have a history of not always voting in the best person as chancellor........

I have been keeping in touch. Yeah, Angie will keep riding german ass and even more the rest of us europeans. She is Right wing (socialist for USians). Like here, they need to compromise with the need for alliances. We have a 'geringonça' at work in Portugal and its been working so far.
Multi party democracies force rulers to compromise. I hear some 40 parties are running.

Oops. Failed to notice this thread.
I like how many European countries seem to have more somewhat viable parties than we do. But the whole coalition thing is confusing (though maybe that's what makes more parties possible).

A lot of them are not viable. some of them present ideas and programs that appease the electorate, not just media shit.
In portugal, in example, the right wing united in the legislative elections. The left went separate. the right wing won, but the left wing united to form a more viable govt, the 'geringonça'. This has forced the left to compromise between themselves to better think the laws and governing. Sure it pissed of the righties to no end, but the Prez has other duties than to take selfies with the gang ( #portuguesethatneverhadaselfiewiththeprez ), and he decided good.
Multi partidarism and political CULTURE from the people help a lot. In democracy, the better informed is the electorate, the btter the system works.

News here is reporting that AFD will garner enough votes for parliamentary seats. Let's hope they don't seat many.

Well... no, her party lost quite a bit presumably because the right end of their voter spectrum punished them for their refugee policy. They remain the strongest force with a meager 33%, so she gets another term if she can convince either the social democrats or jointly the neoliberals+green party to form a coalition. The social democrats very quickly announced to leave government, which means that the green party and neoliberals now need to see whether they have it in them to form a joint government. They will because none of.them wants to risk a new vote.
