To explain in to you . Displacement is because of the mass , but the volume displaced depends on the volum of the object ,1 cubic meter of water is displaced for 1 cubic meter of iron but the mass of the water displaced isn't equal with the mass of iron so the object doesn't float . This is why the shape of the ship is important

A ship whose average density is less than that of water (ie it is bouyant, or flotable as you put it) will displace an amount of water equal in weight to the ship itself regardless of what shape the ship is. You might say the ship is designed so it’s average density, including the air in its hull, would be less than that of water. You might say the hull’s dimension and shape must implicitly meet the criteria, else the ship will go straight to the bottom.
I'm seeing a lot of density in this thread.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Even inside an accelerating rocket far from any significant source of gravity, buoyancy will operate just the same as if there is a normal gravitational field there. Relativity says an observer inside an accelerated frame of reference would be unable to tell whether he is accelerating or just in a gravity field. RE: Some people believe that gravity doesn't exist

Yes , I might have not been clear enough , when I reffered to shape , I was thinking that it will need to have a certain size.
But you can't say that we remain on Earth because of density difference only . RE: Some people believe that gravity doesn't exist

the effect of gravity via mass

I see , because of the movement of the rocket the force that oposes it's movement becomes gravity. That states that I can't really tell that I'm moving or being atracted ?
You landlubbers are looking for a word, "displacement".

A ship will displace a mass of water equal to its weight and has fuck all#2 to do with its shape. (October 19, 2017 at 6:07 am)notimportant1234 Wrote: To explain in to you . This is why the shape of the ship is important Try this. You are in a boat in lake and in that boat you have a large cannon ball. Now throw the cannon ball over the side, does the water level in the lake go up or down?
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.
It goes up , by very little but it goes up. But the canonbal doesn't float. The ideea of a ship is to displace enought water before it sinks. That is why the shape matters . Seriously, i gave you a wikipedia link, Anomalocaris explained it to you.
