Atheists don't realize asking for evidence of God is a strawman

Science is the method that we use to sudy things that exist.
Something doesn't have to be in a science journal to be investigated using science.

And asking for evidence isn't a gotcha moment. It's a legitimate thing people do when seeking to determine the truth of any matter. All.the.time.

Your pathetic strawman and attempt at gotcha is totally weak. Mystic knights ramblings on beauty and ultimate truth are better arguments.

I read him as saying it can 'exist' if you want it to exist, wink wink.  He admits there is no evidence for any of it but he has found a way to convince himself.  Besides there are so many others doing it, surely they can't all be wrong.

* Bible is a religious work not a scientific work.
* Give me scientific evidence for a God.
* But Bible isn't a scientific work

What is your response? Is Bible a scientific work or not?
This will be the third time I've explicitly stated that it isn't.  For a guy that tells other people to re-read his shit..you don't seem to do much reading.
Quote:Or do you have any proof to back up your claim/straw that you implicitly made when you asked for scientific evidence from a religious textbook.
The only claim implicit in my request is that magic book purports to report facts which can be tested by the scientific method.  The only way that this claim could be false....is if there are no meaningful, testable, facts in magic book.  Genesis would have to be fiction.  The line of patriarchs would have to be fiction.  The NT would have to be fiction.

Is magic book, your religious textbook, fiction...or does it purport to report facts which can be tested by the scientific method?

Quote:I've explained it perfectly to you.
The trouble is that what you;ve explained is not a strawman, and has palpably damaged your credibility as a person who takes magic book to be anything other than useful fiction.

I'll say again, this can't have been what you intended to do with the OP?

We generally don't get into arguments with people who are satisfied with their faith. If someone tells me they believe in God and I ask them why, if they say they believe on faith; there really isn't much more to say about it, they have faith that God exists and I don't, and that can be the end of it, I'll drop it if they will. I never run into 'faith is my reason' people when the subject of God belief comes up on the internet, for some reason. I run into people trying to convince me that God exists by argument. I'm not going to be convinced without evidence, and I say so.

What in the above is supposed to be a strawman again?
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

If you're not going to pay attention to evidence, then you can't say that your religion is any more credible than any other. So why aren't you a Muslim? Or Buddhist? Or worship medichlorins? According to your world view Pooley they are all equally credible.

I mean, anyone that says that evidence doesn't matter/isn't required for a claim about reality clearly is divorced from logic and is nearly impossible to have a meaningful conversation with.

The strawman is making a implicit claim that a religious work is a scientific work and asking for scientific evidence that is on the level with scientific works.

My bad.  What's your evidence for believing that a god exists in general?  What evidence have you for thinking the bible tells you which god exists?

Pool is starting with the assumption that only scientific claims require evidence. Despite the fact that this is patently incorrect. I agree that the Bible certainly is not a scientific work, but that doesn't magically make its believers exempt from actually backing up its claims.
