Okay...so lets say believers don't need scientific evidence to back up the claims (an asinine statement when the book clearly makes claims about reality that can be tested with science). How about historical evidence?

We may be overthinking this. His idea of 'scientific evidence' might be something like finding it in an encyclopedia?

The best historical evidence -is- scientific evidence. Satellite imagery has done more for archaeology than all the nuts with bibles and spades in all of history ever did. As have various methods of document recovery, genetic sampling, subsurface and penetrative scanning, computer simulation.......the list goes on and on and on.
Applying the question...what should I find if my historical hypothesis is true, and what might I find that shows it to be false has -greatly- improved our understanding of history. In point of fact, it's all of these things which falsify the "history" of magic book. That's why any discussion like this invariably circles the drain to some crackpot creatard website.

It's misrepresenting someone's position as something easier to refute. Like if you say you want to see gun restrictions on domestic violence offenders enforced and I represent you as wanting to confiscate all privately held firearms, because that's easier for me to argue against. We don't bring up evidence because it makes theists easier to argue against. We bring it up because they are claiming that something exists, and evidence is what we need to believe that claim. If they don't have any evidence, there's nothing more to talk about when it comes to convincing us, although that doesn't seem to phase the ones that like to participate in internet discussions.

@FatAndFaithless,
Look up "Biblical archeology". Mister Agenda Wrote:So you actually have no idea what makes something a straw man fallacy? It's misrepresenting someone's position as something easier to refute. The worldwide accepted position is that the Bible is a religious work. When scientific evidence is asked for God Bible is misrepresented as a scientific work so that it can be subject to scientific scrutiny to make it easier to refute it. So you're happy with the statement that if something is a religious work then it is a work of fiction. Glad we've cleared that up.

I think we're about to hit bingo yall. Yes..yes...look up "biblical archaeology", it's a wonderful demonstration of the value and need for evidence, scientific or otherwise, and the absolute fucking dearth of it for any story in magic book.
