LMAO - I was gonna ask him if he's 14.

I've learned not to make that judgement based on swearing as an argument or use of logic.   It doesn't seem to yield accurate results (or many lie about their age).

I'd like to say I'm shocked at chorlton's level of discourse, but I'm really not. It's just a further extension of the trend we've been seeing. And it's a waste of my time. Think I'll take the rest of the year off. Possibly see you in 2018.

try again using facts

So, what you are saying is: Even through I don't really understand the doctrines taught in the Bible, I'm going to complain about them and you can't use the Bible to correct me.

That's a stupid response.

NO.

I have read it cover to cover twice and probably more in chunks over time. The way of apologetics is to claim that the bible does not mean what it actually says, it means what somebody else claims it says. That is Alice in Wonderland territory.

I'm sure someone somewhere cares.

Using the word enduring a lot doesn't make your post deep.

So, what you're saying is, "If you don't believe in God, you are punished (consequences)?" That's pretty much what you're refuting.

No, 'enduring' has a very specific meaning in my sentence -- note how enduring consequences follow from both antecedents (see there, I used that word to make it sound deeper).

To clarify what I mean by Hell: It is a complete separation from God. It is immaterial which works--because so is your soul. There is no overlord doing things to your immaterial soul to cause pain. "Weeping and gnashing of teeth" are metaphors to the pain caused by complete separation from God.

'Punishment' and 'consequences' are different words for a reason. They have different meanings and nuances. Punishment carries with it a sense of retribution--a desire to right a wrong by inflicting (an action word) some penalty. Consequence is simply a result of an action or condition. Which better describes Hell?  Our sin may make us deserving of hell and if that was the end of the story, then the word punishment would be appropriate. But since it can be avoided by all, what is the real reason one goes to hell? The reason is rejecting God and his offer. That, for me, moves going to hell squarely in the consequence column.

If it's a result of an action or condition, it's because "he" made it so, according to the very core of your religion. Therefore, whatever consequences stem from not believing in god are very deliberate on "his" part.

So, Hell is just a place where souls chill without god. There is really nothing to fear except not hanging out with god. So, if you don't believe in god or aren't that pleased with his creation, it's not a big deal. I can just kick it with atheists for all of eternity. Cool. Sin on, folks! W00t!
