Victims 'told not to report' Jehovah's Witness child abuse

The truly fucked up thing is that abusers are protected in most of the christer cults. It's a rare case that the abused, or their parents, go directly to the authorities. Too often they go to a different elder from the one abusing them and get advised to hush.

But you see, they do go to "authorities"-- they just have a different conception of what an authority figure is. An "elder" who will overlook the continued molestation of a child because it will "reflect poorly on Jehovah" to involve the police actually counts as an authority figure to those who participate in this cult. To you and I, "elders" aren't authority figures. Not so for those caught in the spider's web. Isn't religion awesome?

The problem isn't that you aren't following the logic. It's that you have a concept to begin with that supersedes logic. Remember, Jehovah teaches us that there are certain circumstances where it is moral to let child molestation continue. You can't logically arrive at such a conclusion. It takes religion to get you there.
