I'd like to think I start people higher than 5, but that's probably not truth.
I probably am a little more skeptical of people than I'd like to admit.
I have a very pessimistic acquaintance who told me that he never expects anything from anyone. That way, he's always pleasantly surprised when they come through, either at work or at home.

I know people I have in high esteem, yet they’ve made mistakes or hurt me before. Doesn’t mean I bring them down from their “high”. I think my question is pretty clear, though. I usually like people at the start, with a few exceptions.
Doesn't high or low imply a ranking?
I don't want this to turn into a debate or anything like that. I'll just say no, i don't start people with a high or low. I guess i go by vibes more than anything or my mood.

I usually start people at a 10 then I make excuses for them if they do something that should lower their score. Once you get to a 0, though, there’s no coming back.

I used to start people off at 10, but after a few...umm... experiences, I now take care to even put them on the scale.

I generally tend to start people off with an "I don't know" of 5 until I get some indication off their actions, behavior. etc.. I see no more sense in assuming random strangers are "good people" than I do is assuming the absolute worst about them, when I have absolutely nothing to go on.

I think this is the most healthy position. I just don’t take it when I should. Heh

Meh...I don't there's a "right" answer. Different strokes for different folks.
One can take the more generous position approach, and still be cautious and/or guarded when needed.

I start people off at five or six.
It's generally easier and quicker to ascend then descend.
But if they start me off at 0 then I put them at -4.

Thank you for making this thread, Ivy, I am enjoying it very much.
You started at a 5 for me, Ivy, but it only took about 3 paragraphs from you for me to turn you up to a 10.
