Not only did Republicans sweep through the House, trouncing the Democrats, but Republicans also trounced the Dems in state and local elections. In my state, Republican, John Kasich defeated the liberal incumbent Democratic Governor, Ted Strickland. Rep. Rob Portman, defeated Dem. Lee Fischer for Senate. Rep. Mike DeWine defeated Dem. Attorney General, Richard Courdray, etc. Ohio has a double digit unemployment rate. The number one concern with voters accross the country is the economy. Are you implying that we don't have a real economic problem? The next highest issue of concern, is Obama's health care reform. Voters don't want it.

Quote:The stimulus wasn't nearly as big as it needed to be.
You can't be serious. The nation is better than $13 trillion in debt. The federal budget deficit is nearly $1.5 trillion. Federal spending is now at $3.5 trillion....and Democrats think spending our way out of this is the solution? Federal spending and the national deficit is another concern cited by voters. We're not going to spend our way out of debt. Fedral spending has to be cut, and tax cuts should be extended. Cut, Cut, Cut!

I'm implying and saying that sluggish economic growth beats the hell out of a collapsing economy and the prospect of another Great Depression. I'm still waiting for you to explain why you feel we're in a bigger mess now than what the Republicans made.

Quote:The next highest issue of concern, is Obama's health care reform. Voters don't want it.

Detailed polling on American reaction to health care is dissatisfaction with the final bill. Of those dissatisfied, a decisive majority felt the bill didn't go far enough. A minority felt the bill went too far.

I'm curious what you would advocate. Our health care system is broken. My wife would be dead now but for the coverage my marriage provided her. I still had to liquidate my IRA to pay for her life-saving surgery that insurance denied coverage for. No other nation in the world has for-profit health insurance companies directing health care. This is like having foxes run the chicken coup.

Quote:You can't be serious. The nation is better than $13 trillion in debt. The federal budget deficit is nearly $1.5 trillion. Federal spending is now at $3.5 trillion....and Democrats think spending our way out of this is the solution?

Not just democrats. Every economist that I've heard has said the stimulus wasn't big enough.

We have a crumbling infrastructure in desperate need of repair. And when businesses and consumers have cut their own spending, only government spending can get the economy back on track. If the government cuts spending, nobody is spending and the economy implodes. See Herbert Hoover and the Great Depression for an example.

Quote:Federal spending and the national deficit is another concern cited by voters. We're not going to spend our way out of debt. Fedral spending has to be cut, and tax cuts should be extended. Cut, Cut, Cut!

I'm still waiting to hear how you're going to cut 700 billion out of the budget to cover Bush's tax cuts for the top 1% earners. Are you going to cut defense spending? Medicare? Social Security?

Setting aside how a recession is the worst time to cut government spending, Republicans need to put up or shut up about spending cuts. What? Where? How much? And it better be at least 700 billion to cover your tax cuts.

Also, tax cuts are proven to be ineffective at stimulating the economy. See the Bush tax cuts that we're now debating.

The country tanked in 2008, but why let facts get in the way of a good rant?

Mostly due to military spending & Medicare mismanagment. I love how people that like to use the debt as a bludgeon for their point of view *always* leave that little tidbit of information off. It's almost like they are being intellectually dishonest or something.

I like how republicans talk about small government and yet expand defense spending greatly.

Oh, and Harry Reid won. Fuck yeah!

I met that guy once - he's quite an effective person, but he really has his hands tied in trying to get the ball-less democrats to do things.

A sluggish fragile economy and a nearly 10% national unemployment rate is hardly a confidence builder for the current administration and the Democrats. Prior to, and after being elected as president, Obama campaigned on "Shovel Ready" jobs...but now, in the New York Times, Obama admitted that there is no such thing as shovel ready jobs...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiuYW3XdB...re=related

During his first year as president, Obama and the Democrats put their efforts into passing health care reform instead of focusing on the nations immediate problems, jobs and the economy, (The Labor Dept. just reported that 457,000 new jobless claims were filed last week). This is what made voters angry. This is why the nation woke up on November 3rd to a Republican conservative take over. We want jobs and a stable economy, not intrusive government health care refom. Voters just don't trust the liberal Democrats. Obama and the Democrats are out spending Bush.

So a collapsed economy under the Republicans in 2008 is better then?

I still don't follow your logic.

Actually, they did both. You've seen the bikini graph? Jobs going down under Republicans and reversing under Democrats?

And the health care crisis is an immediate problem. Thankfully, my wife survived it so far.

Quote:We want jobs and a stable economy, not intrusive government health care refom.

Good luck with that. The one silver lining is now the Republicans have responsibility for putting up or shutting up. You can get away with being the party of "no" when you're the minority. Now they have to figure out how they're going to cut taxes, balance the budget and create jobs while reining in spending all at the same time. Good luck!

Quote:Obama and the Democrats are out spending Bush.

All Bush's bills for the bailout (which has been mostly recovered) came in under Obama's watch. Plus, he was honest and included the funding for Bush's illegal wars in the budget.

Obama was voted into office on the promise of getting decent healthcare to all Americans. Can you not remember that? Do you have a head injury or something?

Also, healthcare fits into the issue of jobs. We're losing jobs to Canada because employers there don't have the crushing burden of providing health care benefits to their employees.

As a business owner, I can tell you that matters. My costs have been skyrocketing over the last decade. I once boasted to perspective employees that we offer coverage that Hillary Clinton would be proud of. Every year this decade we've been forced to cut back more and more to make it affordable for my small business. Now, we can't even give full coverage anymore. We just can't afford it.

Healthcare was bankrupting the nation, and will again if the shitheads have their way. It WAS an immediate problem.

I suppose you don't think a flood is an immediate problem until the water reaches your nose?
