Keeping in mind this theme, it's impossible to see "the near kin" in 42:23 as other then the family of Mohammad and to see them as to see them as chosen pure souls on par with Mohammad.

Part of the discipline of properly interpreting Quran is to see what Surahs go on and on about, and how they hold on to one another, and how verses hold on to one another through that.

We will see that Quran went on and on about this concept of chosen family and it's the heart of it's thesis.

Self serving much, weren't they?

And over one billion idiots are still to this day eating it up!! Hilarious Hilarious Hilarious

The concept of the family of guidance of the time is repeated through out Quran. One of the things Quran corrects the Bible in, is that it emphasizes that there was a family among the Israelites that was like the family of Abraham.

The Messengers were in a form of chosen family: (see verse 2:246-248)

In fact, we read in dead sea scrolls even more emphasis on the family of Aaron so much so that it was emphasized the covenant was regarding the perfectly righteous of them.

Although the current Jewish and Christian texts have it that God broke his promise with regards to Aaron and his offspring, the Quran corrects this, and the correction is one of it's emphasized themes. The start of the is verse 2:248, but it has other instances of this correction.

And he made it a word to continue in his posterity that they may return… (Surah Zukhruf 43:28)
Imam (a.s.) replied: It refers to Imamate which after Imam Husain (a.s.) is appointed in his descendants till the day of judgement. Mufazzal asked: O son of the Messenger of Allah, why was Imamate reposed in the descendants of Imam Husain (a.s.) and not in the progeny of Imam Hasan (a.s.), though both were the sons of the Holy Prophet (S), both were leaders of the youth of Paradise, and both were brothers?
The Hazrat said: Moosa and Haroon both were messenger prophets and were brothers of each other, but Allah appointed the Imamate in the progeny of Haroon and not in the progeny of Moosa. No one has the right to object why it happened like that. Imamate is the vicegerancy of Allah on the earth and no one has the right to object why Allah made Imams from the progeny of Imam Husain (a.s.) and not in the descendants of Imam Hasan (a.s.), because Allah is wise in His actions. Whatever He does it is according to wisdom, as He says:
He cannot be questioned concerning what He does and they shall be questioned. (Surah Anbiya 21:23)

Ibne Mahyar has related from Sulaiman bin Qays that: One day we were in the mosque, Ali (a.s.) arrived and said: Ask me whatever you like before that you don’t find me anymore, and ask me the exegesis of the Quran because there is knowledge of the first and the last ones in it and it has left nothing for anyone.

And no one knows the meanings of the Quran except Allah and those firmly rooted in knowledge and the firmly rooted in knowledge is not one but many, one of them was the Holy Prophet (S). Allah had taught him the knowledge of the Quran. The Holy Prophet (S) taught me and this knowledge shall remain in his progeny till the day of Qiyamat. Then the Hazrat recited this verse:

[…in which there is tranquillity from your Lord and residue of the relics of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron has left, the angels bearing it… (Surah Baqarah 2:248)[/

We will see in Quran, it has emphasized on the concept of chosen household through out.

This surely is part of creating the impression you are suppose to get from 42:23.

It's the family of Mohammad that make the so called stories of the Ancients anything but just old stories, they contain lessons of history,  warnings, and good news, and show God's way.

It's the family of Mohammad that bring the Torah and Gospels together, and show the wisdom of the revelations of the true Kings of humanity, and  the of need of star of guidance and word of God's light from the household of guidance of time.

If you're curious how to easily and correctly interpret the quran I have included an easy to follow visual guide below;

"For the only way to eternal glory is a life lived in service of our Lord, FSM; Verily it is FSM who is the perfect being the name higher than all names, king of all kings and will bestow upon us all, one day, The great reclaiming"  -The Prophet Boiardi-

      Conservative trigger warning.
